Hacking Outrun 2006
BigTinz:
What's the best way to map the gear shift (up/down) to the right stick of my xbox 360 controller? It doesn't respond in the options menu.
The game feels great to control with OR2006Tweaks applied, but I haven't been able to replicate the gear stick like I have set up in TeknoParrot.
Gear drifting with a button press feels wrong...

So I recently bought a new racing seat so I thought I'd give the tweaks mod a try. Most of it is excellent... except the force-feedback..... so I guess fxt still has a purpose for now. I fired up the wrapper and it's hanging at some stage, but according to my cheat engine table most (not all) of the memory locations I use to pull data from are still intact. It should be possible to fix the wrapper, but I want to remove many features that are now redundant due to tweaks. There are also unfinished features I need to complete and I would like to look into rolling some of my mods into tweaks as some of the stuff that requires graphical overlays would make more sense on it than my wrapper.
I'll have to try the texture packs to see what needs upscaled as I already had several textures ready to go for fxt. I've had pretty good luck at taking the character textures (girlfriends, flag man, ect) and upscaling them with ai. It looks like a lot of my content has been rolled into tweaks without me, which is fine, but it would have been nice if I was credited.
I am by no means working on fxt again, but I have a plan of attack now.

Nice to hear from you, Howard!

Likewise.
So I took an hour or so tonight to go ahead and see how badly outrun tweaks broke my fxt and to my surprise... not that much at all! Xinput works, FF should work, all my control hacks should work and the overlay still works....
99% of the memory locations are also still in the same place, I think I found two or three that need changed.
The issue is window focus.... obviously the tweaks wrapper is doing hooking of its own and that is interfering with xinput rumble and controls provided by my wrapper. If you click on any window generated by fxt (including the overlay) my stuff works. The problem is outrun doesn't respond to controls unless it has focus, so it doesn't really work properly. The good news is this is fixable... I'll just have to find the time to do it. I also need to strip away features related to putting my own HD hud in place as well as a few redundant features like the horn.
Even though tweaks has xinput rumble I prefer my version. Looking at the source it isn't mixing various sources like mine and is instead using the xbox rumble, which isn't exactly complete. This is all stuff that could be added into tweaks though. Assuming the author is ok with it the end goal should probably be to merge the two programs. This is something I would be glad to work on but again, finding the time is the issue.

Great to see you're still around brother. Yes, those improvements and a way to enjoy a version of Tweaks that incorporates the best features of FXT would absolutely be welcomed. Keep us posted man
