Gyromite! (help)

ok my memory isnt helping me with this one so..how the hell do i play. i start out closed in this little area with one of the pipe thingies in the way but i cant move em or anything  ???

It's been ages since I've played this, but I'm pretty sure A & B on controler two opened the gates.  Controler two was held by the R.O.B. robot and spinning discs were used with the controler to open the doors.
