Control panel wiring for XBOX MAME cabinet
Alexinedh:
I'm ordering everything I'll need today for my XBOX arcade cabinet and have a couple questions.
Firstly, have a DUKE controller that looks quite difficult to solder to my control panel. So I've been looking at this:
http://www.amazon.com/Smartjoy-Frag-Keyboard-Mouse-Adapter-Xbox/dp/B0009VLUF4/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1358180883&sr=8-4&keywords=keyboard+xbox+original+converter
I think with this, I can plug a keyboard into this converter and leave this plugged into my XBOX. I can solder my control panel to the PCB of a keyboard no problem.
I've also seen some threads of degenatron's KADE board, but haven't seen any releases of it. Does anyone know if that is still being created, or if it's still in development? I'd much rather buy from him than Amazon.
Lastly, I've seen this Dual Strike encoder and was wondering if anyone has used this and if they'd recommend it. I don't particularly know how this connects, whether it be to the XBOX controller itself or otherwise. The lack of a knowledge base on that product is a deterrant. But I'm imagining that's plugged directly into the DUKE controller, and my control panel wiring is screwed into the board. Can anyone verify that?
Thanks as always guys!

You mentioned using the smartjoy. Did you see this other project by Degenetron?

The KADE works great and the team is putting the last few touches on the firmware and software.
Once they assemble and ship the kickstarter rewards -- 289 KADEs requiring 21,079 solder joints :dizzy: -- the KADE hardware, firmware, and software will be open-source released to the community at large and sales will commence, probably in early-to-mid February.

I am looking forward to the KADE. I didn't know they would be shipping so soon. Right now I am using a gutted xarcade with the Xbox adapter in a cabinet I am refurbishing. Much rather be using the KADE though.
HaRuMaN:
FWIW, I offer hacked Xbox controllers (Duke or S).
