Joust cabinet
southpaw13:
Just for personal use. I already have all the parts and just been waiting for years to find the right cab.
Thanks,

If you're keeping it a Joust cabinet, I would cut back the play area at least. On a Robotron cab with the enclosed play area makes it really awkward to play Joust with 2-players. This is why it was designed this way, so that 2 people could stand side-by-side without having to angle their wrists to play Joust comfortably.
Robotron is a single player at-a-time game, so the enclosed area makes sense.

I have a Joust in a Robotron cabinet and I also had an Altered Beast in a robotron cabinet in my gameroom for a while too. The sides didn't get in the way at all they don't really even rise up until after the joysticks.
You can't just cut a Robotron cabinet into a Joust, they look similar but the entire profile is different enough that one can't be cut into another.

Thanks-I actually have a tracing of a side of a Williams cab that looks just like Joust. I am going to lay the pattern over the Robotron to see what the difference is. I think I would need to add in a filler piece on top just below the marquee.
I think I will continue to be confused until I pick up the game on Wednesday night.
Thanks,

Sure, I'm not saying making it into an actual Joust cabinet design. Southpaw is keeping it for personal use, so why not make it a bit more ergonomic? For ease of use for 2-player Joust, cutting out the corners right above the control panel gives you a bit more space for both players.
I recently did the same thing for a buddy of mine who picked up a converted Robotron cabinet he wanted me to restore (and mame). This was easily done with a jig saw.
