m3129 resolution questions/problems?
emuola:
I set the grub options as follows (thanks Calamity):
kernel /vmlinuz-linux root=/dev/disk/by-label/GA quiet splash video=VGA-1:640x480ec vga=785
but my shiny m3129 goes psycho when the boot process begins, the relay clicks like crazy, because the signal is something incompatible. In the advmenu (set to 640 x 480) monitor woks fine.
How Can I force the boot to vga, if/when the line above does not help?
emuola:
Some questions, that I don't understand:
1. Should the image "fill the whole" screen area when doing 640 x 480 in Advancemenu?
2. I ask the 1. question, because if I set the monitor so (640 x 480 fills the whole screen), All the 320 x nnn games won't fit the screen vertically --> the image is wayy too high vertically. Wrong modeline(s)?
3. When a 320 x nnn game launches, should it be automatically in the center (horizontally)? Because, now it's not...
Running latest GroovyArcade and monitor preset is set to m3129
Sorry, never had a tri-mode before :banghead:

Hi emuola,
There's nothing we can do about the boot, the kernel line in grub only has effect after a few seconds, so the first part of the boot is going to be out of range whatever we do. My advice, if you don't like what you hear, is to only turn on your monitor after a while, when you're sure it's already outputting the right frequency. This is what I do for my tri-sync BTW.
I've dug about the source of the m3129 presets, it turns out those were just testing presets and never got properly figured out because the user's monitor actually broke!:

I don't mean that those settings are potentially dangerous, they actually look reasonable, I just want to warn you about that specific model so you are careful.

- GM can make all your resolutions to almost fit perfectly on the HORIZONTAL, once you find your custom specs.
- No software can control the VERTICAL size of a resolution on a CRT monitor, you need to adjust it physically (potentiometers, service menu, etc.).

Ok, I'll have to figure out a convenient way to add a power switch for the monitor :) The preset might be something pretty much ok, but I'll be cautious.
