Black Coin Door Lock
gamepimp:
Has anyone come across a black coin door lock? The closest I've seen was an antique brass/bronze one. Would like one that is all black so that it doesn't look so obvious on the door...

Cant you just paint a chrome one? Maybe scruff it good with light sandpaper, then use etching primer, then hammered black paint. You can stick a key in it to keep the paint out of the insides while you paint it.

Couldn't you spray it black? put some paper or cardboard in the lock hole and spray away.....

I had some trepidation about painting my hinges black (on both the coin door and the back door piano hinge), but I did some light coats...waited for them to dry, moved the mechanism (in this case, the lock) and after about 3 light coats, it seems to work fine with no bunching of the paint around the hinge ears...You will probably want to scuff it, or even get a brass lock, and use some good automotive etching primer...just a light coat, though.
Here you can see the hinge extended during paint.
