Adhesive backed or Not? CP with Plexi
« on: May 10, 2012, 08:40:14 pm »
I am about to order my artwork and I was wondering what was the pros and cons for adhesive back artwork and nonadhesive backed?  It's for a 4 player cp that will have plexi on top.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

I was wondering the same thing. It seems to me the artwork will be kept in place underneath the plexi by the controls. It would also be much easier to replace the artwork when its not glued.

I think the difference being is that non adhesive may show some waves in the way it lies. Even with plexi on top there's a good chance it may still show it. from the side angle slightly. Adhesive will lock it flat to the wood/metal underneath.

Here are my thoughts:

Adhesive backed:
Professional looking
Permanently stays in place
can be applied to curved control panels
Plexi optional
Stays straight through use.
Adds protection to control panel surface
Can be a pain to remove after years of use and replacement art is desired.
Line it up wrong while applying and you could have a hard time fixing it.

Non Adhesive backed:
Can be removed at any time and reapplied (Important if your joysticks are mounted through the top.)
Plexi required, and plexi must be mounted well.
Needs to be sandwiched between plexi to stay flat
Can warp and shift with use, generally wont last as long.
Easy to replace
Moisture can get caught between art and CP

If you feel confident about your art, I would go with adhesive backed.
