Reverse electric motor with arcade buttons..

I'm trying to come up with a way I could make a controller for a hight adjustable table my father in law got.
Now he uses two crocodile clamps on a paralell-connected gel batteries (12V), and reverse polarities to lower the table.

I was thinking something like this; http://www.robotroom.com/DPDT-Bidirectional-Motor-Switch.html
Only that I want to use some of my arcade buttons laying around (perhaps some of them lighted ones).
But how would I do something like this?

Can't wrap my brain around the solution..
HALP?!

How many amps is this device pulling?  Get yourself two 12 volt relays from auto parts store/online, ect...  I'll draw you a picture to make it easier.  Fuse it going to the battery the amp rating of the motor.  One button will go up, one will go down. Enjoy.

You could also use a Double Throw Double Pole Toggle switch (radio shack has em), and just cross the terminals from one pole to the other. That effectively reverses the polarity to the motor. not arcade buttons, but it's a much easier hookup.

Keep in mind though that you may also want to put some limit switches in place, unless the motor/linear actuator already has them. Otherwise, you could burn out the motor or break things.

+1 on the limit switches.  I built something similar for my mechanical engineering sensior design project.

The link provided uses DTDP switches, thats easy and cool and all. But not arcade buttons  :-\
Also, we don't have radio shack in Norway. We do have similar stores, but none of them stock DTDP switches (atleast when checking online).
I think the actuator has limit switches, or else I would have to install those.
Thanks!

About the amp, i haven't measured. The relay switches is a good way to go, thanks a lot!
Also, you have 500 posts! The proof
