VPLauncher6.0 help please
« on: March 27, 2012, 12:13:56 pm »
Howard, first and foremost, THANKS!
I have not been able to run my Visual Pinball tables for almost 4 years and gave up trying. (one of the required VP versions required an upgrade and I couldn't get it to run from MAMEWAH again).  I recently decided to try it again (I'm helping my nephew build a MAME cabinet too).
I was finally able to launch VPinball from my old MAMEWAH installation.  Thank You for making this work again!

I've read the README file, but need a little help I couldn't find there. A couple questions:

1. I was running Future Pinball, with "Pinball Wrapper.exe", do you see any advantage to converting to VPLauncher6.0 also? (I have the snaps manually loaded and working, so it would just be to launch it)

2. Can I run 2 copies of VPLauncher?  (I have it setup to run my old VPinball (v8.0), but I'd also like to run VP9.  Is it possible?)

3. My nephew's PC / video card is not as powerful as mine, can you recommend what settings I should reduce for his setup?  (I know a little about PCs, but get confused when we start talking about anti-alias and such)

4. Can you explain or point me to some of the DMD settings? Is there a wiki, link, or such that would explain some of these settings? I tried doing some Google searches, but didn't find much. I'd like to make it smaller or transparent for some of the games.

Again, Thank You very MUCH!  :applaud:

(if anyone else can provide any feedback to my questions, I'd greatly appreciate the help)

Re-read the Readme, found the DMD transparency (missed it the first time, focusing on setup). 255 is fully solid.

How can I set the Exit to Player1 & Player2? (I see it is currently set to 27(?)

27 is virtual keycode... it means the escape key.  ;)  You can click on the button next to it to bind the exit function to another key.

You can't use double keys to exit... sorry about that.

1. The vp wrapper won't work on future pinball, sorry.  I might add a quick update to make it fp compatable, but I would have to essentially turn all the settings off.

2.  Sure... you just want to have two completely different visual pinball folders and a wrapper in each one.  Keep in mind that vp settings are saved in the registry though, so they'll share a lot of settings.  Keep in mind that the wrapper is vp9 centric though, so aside from launching the thing and the dmd settings, the table settings probably aren't going to work.

3.  Don't use translucency effects... they use a lot of video card heft.  In terms of settings within visual pinball, I dunno, lowering the resolution and bit depth always helps but you'll have to play with it a little.

4.  As you've found, it's in the readme.

Hope that helps!
