Japanese joystick mounting question

(1/1)

EvilGreenDevil:
I just picked up 2 Seimitsu LS-32s this week with flat mounting plates but not sure if I should have gotten S plates instead. When I had placed the order, I guess I should have done more research on how I was going to be mounting my joysticks. I went back and forth between a wood CPO or metal and finally settled with wood. Being my first time working with wood on a control panel, I under estimated the router work I would need to do to properly top mount a flat plate.

The cabinet is a bartop design so space is limited, especially with how thick my control panel base is. I'm working with 3/4" MDF with the intent to now rout the bottom of it to install my joystick. I know for sure I'll bottom mount this and that its really between sticking with the flat, or putting up another $15 or so to have a pair of S plates sent.

Which one's more secure? I play a lot of fighters and intend to on this cabinet. Should I get the S plates or am I wasting my time and should just stick with flat?

EDIT: should also mention that I would like to avoid bolts showing. I'll be covering the wood with printed artwork and lexan.

EvilGreenDevil:
24 hour bump?

EvilGreenDevil:
thanks for the reply. I'm very familiar with slagcoin and have read that article a few times. I was hoping someone who has mounted one or the other in a bartop or just thin MDF.  I'm probably going to top mount it with the flat bracket ok a scrap piece first.
