Console arcade sticks that are joystick moddable
« on: January 29, 2012, 07:45:45 am »
Hello all.

Registered a long time ago (6 years actually) forgot (or lost this site along with all my other favorites when my computer crashed a while back) and recently found it again!

Is there a list of arcade sticks (360 mainly, but PS3 as well) that are able to be modded with a 4 way stick? Was possibly looking to have a dedicated stick for playing Pac-Man Championship Edition DX and the old arcade games.

Thanks for the assistance :)

X Arcade with the 2-1 for the PS3 and Xbox1 or the 5-1 for the 360 via PSX adapter.  I have both and I think they totally rock.

Looking for something cheaper?

If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

I'm not sure what you mean by the question.  Pretty much any stick that uses arcade like joysticks (aka joysticks that bolt on) could have it's joystick replaced by another.  All a joystick consists of are 4 switches, so it's fairly easy.  That being said, an official pacman joystick takes up a lot of room.  If you don't want to have to mod the case you'll probably be stuck with the Mortal Kombat arcade stick as it was designed to accomidate larger, American parts.

Or you can go with an xarcade... if you enjoy over-paying for stuff.  ;)

well shoot...

I was hoping something like...
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox360-Fighting-Stick-VX-Xbox-360/dp/B0057WDE8Q/ref=sr_1_7?ie=UTF8&qid=1327841775&sr=8-7
or
http://www.amazon.com/Xbox360-Fighting-Stick-EX-Xbox-360/dp/B000V02P6Q/ref=sr_1_15?ie=UTF8&qid=1327841775&sr=8-15

would be able to have the stick converted over to a 4 way. I have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Xbox-360-Real-Arcade-Pro-EX/dp/B001GDONZS/ref=sr_1_18?ie=UTF8&qid=1327841935&sr=8-18
but I really don't want to turn it strictly into a 4 way (works great on MAME for Windows 7, couldn't get it to work at all on XP for some reason)

anywho, ideally, I'd like to have a custom stick made strickly for 4 way games , bout the size of the two smaller Hori's I posted with custom art, 3 play button instead of 6 and two small buttons (one for coin and one for start) but I know that'll cost a pretty penny.

Not really so long as you do it yourself.... (that was what the whole x-arcade jab was about ;) )

A pacman joystick is around 30 bucks....much less if you buy a used one.... your buttons are around 2 bucks a pop.... you'll need to find a suitable case, and there is a guy here that'll mod a gamepad for you to use as an interface.  As for the art, those joysticks are smaller than 8.5x11, so you can print your art on a single sheet of paper.... free if you do it at home and maybe a few bucks if you go to a copy store.

So:

30+10+25+5+?  You are looking at around 70-80 bucks... not too bad.  If you can find one of the really cheapr hori/madcatz sticks you can go even cheaper than that.... gut the thing, put it in a larger box and replace the stick.  That's only 30 bucks plus the cost of the original controller.
