What else do I need? Jammu conversion
92greenyj:
Hey guys. Haven't been on in a while. Not sure where else to put this and need some input pretty fast so I tout I'd get the most views here.
I run an arcade and currently have a showcase cabinet set up with a Naomi unit with a Marvel Vs. Capcom 2 game cartridge. About a week ago I started getting error 02 on start up. Saying it could not read the cartridge. Tried the usual stuff. Remove and reseat the cart, clean the contacts, dust, etc. all to no avail. It's been doing ok but not great. My thought is the cart itself is bad and none of my parts suppliers can get me one.
So what I would like to do is yank the Naomi console out and switch it over to this

A Capcom 18 in 1 Multigame Jamma PCB
Finally a multigame PCB for the arcade purist! This CAPCOM CPS-II 18-in-1 Multigame JAMMA PCB actually runs many popular CAPCOM games on original CAPCOM CPS-II hardware. So unlike all other multigame PCBs, this CAPCOM 18-in-1 PCB uses NO EMULATION! Running on original CPS-II hardware so every game plays exactly true to the arcade version because it is the exact arcade version. Games are selected via an OSD (On Screen Display) super easy to use interface.
CAPCOM CPS-II 18-in-1 Games List
1 Giga Wing
2 Rock man 2 : The Power Fighters

My question is will I need any other parts to swap this in in place of the Naomi unit currently in the game? Jamma harness, adapters, etc or can I just unplug the Naomi unit and plug this in in it's place?
Thenasty:
If the NAOMI is JAMMA and the Monitor is 15khz, then its just plug n play.
JAMMA is JAMMA
Franco B:
Naomi is JVS, not JAMMA.
If your cab is wired for JVS you would need a JAMMA>JVS adapter like the Namco or Konami ones. Avoid the River Service one as its laggy.
Naomis native output is 31kHz although it can output at 15kHz via a dipswitch on the mobo. If your cabinet is an original cabinet then I imagine it will be have a 31kHz only monitor in if, you could be VERY lucky and find it has a tri/quad/-sync in it.
If it does have a 31kHz only monitor in it you would need a video upscaler to run that board but the end result generally isn't very good.
TBH if you run an arcade you probably have access to other machines that you could run the 18-1 in, that is if you don't mind profiteering off bootleg boards ;)
Have you checked the voltages under load at the Naomi mobo? They can be quite voltage sensitive.
I would check your voltages for a start and if that doesn't work I would swap it out for working cart. At least then you will know if its a cart or mobo problem.

^^This.

I agree with everything Franco said.
Having said that, I picked up a NAOMI system at auction where the cab was wired JAMMA and the monitor was 15Khz (NOTE: I don't believe JAMMA specifies monitor freq, so "JAMMA" is NOT JAMMA).
perhaps a pic of the wiring (to see if there is a JVS to JAMMA converter there already) and the monitor might let us give you more options, although I would do as Franco suggests first. Checking voltage is always step 1.
