hi
cvn53
all of the file's i attached are for u
placing them in 1 at a time is just not going to do the job
u will see why when i am done up-datting
the error u get is because
a=u are running windowsxpE >embedded<
b=it run's on very limted .ins set
c=i need to build it 1 file at a time
then we can make a bootable cd,and load them all in at once
it is a matter of time till i get them all toghter

spitfire
if u do not have a spare video card that the pga will take
then yes that is part of the pourpse of this thread to remove legacey hardware and up-grade,is the fan on your video card working right ?
if so i will spec the card u want to run,and snag it's dll's tool's etc
because unless u missed alot it is not as simple as window's shove in a card and let it detect, will not work dose not work that way
a=windowsxp> E<
b=fat32x mbr
c=pga is a semi dos based game
so hence the reason i am now in talk's with nvidia to get there dll;s and tool's needed for cvn53,u will be the same

hi
ok so i can put this 1 to bed
there is a total of 6 dll file's used
and 1 oxc file
thats a total
6+1=7 dynamic link libary's
there is a total of 27+16 window's script file's
where some are dual's of the other we can round off
at 35  give or take
nvidia has a root call
both in disk1 and 2
the rescue disk is mainly pqmagic
that is used to resize to max space >fat32x=1024 to the power of x< x is defined by mfg mbr
so as u can clearly see if u know window's
the dynaic link libary's are none exitisnt for all partacial proupse's
in conculision i am going to restart this proggie from scratch
all u will need is your rescue disk
side note there is 1 call to direct-x-6
ecen though it is window's xpe it is built on window's home edition
i am going to ramp t to window's pro sp3
if the drive will support that much ?
if not i will chop to fit
now this is a big task, if u need open ended to add your own driver's tool's exe's ask now,i know what cvn53 want's,spitfire u will need to spec a apg card i can code into
if that is all beside's the .net patching for turnnie
then we can move fast,i am ramming up tonight to process
speak up or hold on

Hi Ed, there are 3 things I would like to get done.
1 = tournament play versus 2 of my mates that have PGA machines
2 = a way to unlock items players and courses for my mates as I already have access all areas pass
3 = and now to upgrade my 128m NVidia card to a 512m x1650PRO ATI card as my nVidia seems to be playing up.
I have followed ur thread n am keen to make the above happen and thank you for all ur work.
However I will not be doing anymore editing until u notify me that all works n u have clear instruction s on how to make it work on mine and my mates machines.
Waiting for ur instructions
Thx Spitfire

Hi Ed, maybe easier to just buy another nVidia agp card. Will they all work? Or can you suggest one that will run the game alot better than my 128m 4400 card?
I can get a nVidia GeForce 7600gs 512m will that work?
Thx Spitfire

hi
spitfire
any nvidia u want
if u can get it with sep .dll's/tool's thats even better
if not it is not lost
as i explained i am now a dev-sw-eng for nvidia
so they are starting to give me the nessary info i need
just rem u CANNOT use a pci>ei< card as your port is pcie
to be sure just look at where the knotch is
this is lagecy

on a side note
i wanted to ditch the rescue disk, welp that is going to happen to the extent that most of it will stay, along with a few new addition's
also disk 1/disk to are just about coded into
gobal was a byte pissie when i told them i turned off the NON turnnie call >canada<
which mean's u can now do it,they were also a tad ticky when i explained that u no longer need the dongle >ie pga1/2/3 will now run on the same platform
trying to move it over to ntf's fully and ditching the pqmagic, window's did a better job of resizing there.
so to cap
the next set of test's are a window's ntf's running xp-sp3,and mounting disk 1 and 2
and seeing if i can ditch rescue,or if i need it ? what do i need to add ?
this will open it for anybody to use

Ed,

I was pointed to this thread by dirt and I have to say that I am so happy and appreciative that you are taking the time and effort to unlock the full potential of our PGA machines.  I have a Team Challenge machine and always thought that it was unfortunate that I would never be able to unlock the additional courses and players because online access no longer exists (I'm in Chicago).

I eagerly await how this turns out and can't wait to get involved in some tournament play with everyone!  Again...thank you, thank you, thank you!  :applaud:

reason for the delay's is it take's time to tear a proggie down and rebuild it

hi
spitfire
it is what i thought
Version: 178.24 WHQL
Release Date: 2008.10.15
Operating System: Windows XP 64-bit, Windows Server 2003 64-bit
Language: English (U.S.)
File Size: 93.6 MB
it is x64 windows xp-7
we run 32bit windows
i can try to tear the installer down or regroup the file's to better handle 64bit
your best bet right now is to set it aside and just get a old video card
until i am done
as this is a rather tall order, and i will need to confire with a few coder's

On my particular machine their are two things that drive me nuts.  The first is the extremely loud sound that the fan in the computer makes while the machine is powered on.  The second is the loading times and occasional "skipping" (where the game jumps and doesn't run smoothly during shots).  I'm thinking if I increased the RAM it may take care of the skipping/lag and loading issues but then I'm still going to have the extremely loud fan.

What I'm hoping I can do is take out the essential guts to run the game and place it in a quieter more powerful computer.  I'm thinking I will do this all at once once Ed has completed his software package of extras.  Anyone have any luck taking the hard drive out of the original computer and placing it in another to better run PGA?

hi
dozens of time's
just steer away from 64bit until my pkg's are complete
the lag is ram,so replace old and add a few new 1's,the fan is shot
time for a few new 1's

cvn53 i have your 32bit beta driver's

spitfire i am working on your's now

and always rem the more fan's the better
1=on video card
3=on putter

Thanks, Ed.  What would you say are the essentials that should come out of the original computer and placed in the new computer for the easiest transition?  Just trying to avoid as much trouble shooting as possible and I can't think of anyone better to ask the question to than you.  Thanks so much!

Hi Ed, no prob mate I will stick to running the original 128m card for now. Just thought u said any nVidia would do? So not in any real rush to get this new card workin. Would much rather u pool ur efforts to getting the tournaments going n unlocking the SW to allow all players n items.
Thx heaps,

hi
i use any mobo that has a decent ammount of ram room
plus
 2 usb's
 1 t10
 1 mouse >ps2<
 1 key board >ps2<
 no on board video
i try to use 2.7 gig processer
 or better >within pga room<
tend to copy gobal vr pga over to larger harddrive's  ie 80 gig or better
gives me room to put full xp on it sp3 of course
do not really care about higher video card's,:but that is comming around now: :):)
i do like to stay away from legacey modo's,and use newer 1's
500 watt or better power supply
olny card u have to move over is the i/o interface for the control panel

dirt/spitfire/cvn53
can u ppl up your hard drive's ?
ie to about 80 gig ?
if so u have it made in the shade by flint
and i will not have  to chop as much out

it turns out pq magic will olny resize to a max of 10 gig
which leave's a ton of hardware resource to play with
80 gig hard drive's i get given to me
so it should not be to hard for u folk's?
but please chime in

any old harddrive will work. there is no specific requirement other than being PATA.

we have 2 machines (neither of which work currently) but they both have had the drives replaced with no issues regarding that.

if you don't have install disks perhaps ed can clarify the legality of ripping the cd to an ISO and uploading them someplace.

hi
lilshawn
thk-u for ringing in
yes any old harddrive will do 10 meg or better to run pga golf
problem i am having is the window's driver set etc is very small
with a larger drive i can open it all the way
with head room to spare
as these are old legacey unit's and not used as commerical
we can do this, plus it will make my life easy :)
and to answer your q
u can rip it to disk/iso/copy whichever make's u feel good
i personally use easeus tool backup, but again this all boil's down to what
u are good with,lord u can do a 1-1 if i want..
but my point is want to enact alot of thing's here i need more window's sp-pk's with
just like mame became bigger..it's alot along them line's

Hi ed,
My puter is doing the same thing again. Just like the picture I posted. I went into the BIOS and when I checked the standard BIOS it doesn't have anything as ide  master or slave. It does have cd-rom as secondary master. It like it does not see my hard drive. What can I do beside pour some gasoline and light a match. Jk

is this a new drive or the original?

if it's the original it's likely packing it in.

if it's a new drive double check your master/slave configuration on the drive. check your cable too. pull the cable out and look at a light through it. Does it have a small hole in it? It could be a "cable select" cable. The drive would have to be set accordingly.

Your motherboard might be packing it in too if the new HD is randomly dropping out.

if that's the case you can try configuring the HD as master and the CD rom as slave and sharing the secondary channel. The computer will still boot, you might need to set something in the bios to tell the computer you still want to boot off an HD in this configuration...some you don't. You may still get some use out of it.

but usually if the board is crapping out on you there isn't much you can do because it will eventually get worse. Besides swapping out the board and doing the aforementioned xpsp3 install and mods to get it working...you'd have to try and source the same board to replace it which would be next to impossible.

hi shawn,

it is the same harddrive that has been in the machine since i got it. i am not too computer literate. i would have no idea how to set up a new harddrive. if the harddrive is failing and the motherboard is next can i use another computer and load the pga? i have 2 spare towers but i would need to take one to somebody and have them wipe it clean and reinstall windows. another problem is i dont have the pga recovery disks. i was hoping ed would be able to load all the updateded work he has done on to a cd so even a dumbass like me can update my machine.

Hi Dirt
not sure if you have tried swamping ide cables,I have seen them go bad.have you tried slaving your hard drive in another machine to see if it works, if it does its likely the motherboard has problems.can you see your hard drive in the bios?just read your post earlier you can't see the hard drive so its either motherboard or bad drive if you slave the drive in another machine and you can see it load then its motherboard or possibly bad ide cable hope this helps.

Oh man...so I got a little adventurous and decided to pull the computer out of my PGA Golf Team Championship to see about upgrading the ram so that the game ran smoothly.  I also wanted to see what I was in store from if I were to starting pulling components out of that machine to place in another.

Now I'm not sure how many of you have actually opened up your computer to peak inside but mine was an unpleasant surprise.  All the wiring is so compacted on the back end of the wall that I simply cannot get to the ram.  It seems as if I can't remove the hard drive without removing 5 other things.  It's like trying to change the battery in a car that has just about everything else in front of it!

With that being said I am anticipating Ed's final work here as I would love to pick up a couple cheap towers that PGA will support without having to pull mother boards, hard drives, graphic cards, etc. from my existing computer.

I bought a gutted cabinet (still has the control panel) for $50 so I'm going to chop off the top and make it a pedestal cabinet.  I have an extra 40" LCD that I will use for the screen.  So my hope is to have a new computer running my Team Challenge in my modified pedestal cabinet.  At that point I can give my existing cabinet with original computer to my brother and hopefully play him online before Christmas!
Offering commercial grade vinyl decal printing for cabinet side art, control panel overlays, monitor bezels, marquees, etc.

hi
stpcore

dirt has ran into the same problem
they are not so hard to tear down, take your time
u have a modem,usb-4-port interface board,and a 37 pin i/o board to the control panel,button's
the usb cable on the back >white< goe's from the i/o board to the usb port
the 4-port unit is used for the the player's/operater's card-reader on the face
also the bill stacker >dbm<,the rest of it is perty much a straight foward putter

the olny thing u CANNOT change until i up-load the ftp addy is the VIDEO CARD u can change the mobo/hard-drive,and ditch the phome modem
as we do not use it >we use on-board-lan-now<

hint's here
change fan's,clean under processer-relube..it will want it
if the video card dose not have a fan,? by god stick 1 on it
the ram can go up to what the bios will support
2 gig i do rem

dirt for now if u have a spare putter
slap in the hard drive and video card and i/o board
that will keep u going,i did read your pm

to all
as it turn's out i will need to be the gate keeper
ie >>server<<
i tried to avoid this, but cant

also i have a side note
there is some mod's that will un-load your internal power-supply
of the putter..this is good as tower will run cold <<i like cold>>

stpcore
congrad's on the idea
look at the new its gamming golden tee live
u can get all the info there
use the base design
and remove the cab from the putter
i can show u pix's later in the week

cvn53 your plug is on it's way
