The movie, not the kids who ---fudgesicle--- everything up ;-)

Set in Elizabethan times, it's based around the premise that William Shakespeare didn't in fact write anything. I went to this only knowing something about his contemporary Ben Johnson, and the fact lots of people have contended he didn't write his own stuff. Wow, what a story! I'm not really concerned with whether the idea that the Earl of Oxford actually authored Shakespeares plays, it's a ripping yarn regardless.

The cast is excellent. Rhys Ifans is great as the Earl of Oxford, Rafe Spall is funny as Shakespeare. I've just started watching a comedy called Pete Vs Life that Spall is in. He plays the same character- a clueless wanker  ;D

To enjoy this movie, you will need to like period dramas, or thrillers. The costumes are fantastic, as is the CGI and sets. The only thing that let it down for me is I get easily confused with political machinations- who did what to whom and why. If you're interested in seeing this don't read up on anything about the theories of who might have written Shakespeares works. Just enjoy the story.

4/5

Would you say it's the best use of CGI you have seen in an Elizabethan era drama film?  :duckhunt
