How many buttons for Cocktail MAME?

Im building another cocktail and was just seeing how many buttons should one have? I have always put six and noticed thats two much and a real over kill. So would two or three buttons be better? Its two player head to head.

Are you going 4-way or switchable? 1 button might be enough on 4-way, I can't think what you'd be missing out on.

Turnarcades:
If you're going for a vertical head-to-head design, I doubt many games would use more than 2. That said, I'd go with 3 just to cover all the great vertically-orientated JAMMA shooters.
