What is the exact ref. or name of this part? Help needed
« on: April 02, 2011, 04:13:52 pm »
Hi,

I am restoring my MK3 cabinet and I need several parts like this (see attached pictures below).

The point is : there are several parts, 2 parts wich need to be stripped with the wires, and they are both linked by a "S" plastic part between them.

I thougt it was "Molex KK housing" but I was wrong and received unuseful parts from jammaboards.com (http://www.jammaboards.com/store/connectors-pins/3-96mm-156-molex-connectors/cat_4.html).

Can you help me please?

Thank you in advance !  :)

The "Z" connector between the 2 female .156 molex plugs is WMS part number 5791-12235-XX, XX is the number of pins. The WMS part number is pretty useless though.  :-\

The female housings in the picture are IDC(insulation displacement style). The crimp-on pins give a more reliable connection. If you bought male headers as well, you can solder two of them together to make a "Z" connector.

The part with the wires in it is called a "discrete wire IDC".  Here is a digikey link:
http://search.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dksus.dll?Detail&name=A31273-ND

I am assuming that the wires are 22AWG, if not its available in other sizes.

As for the "S" part, could you post an image of it?

Hello ...

Sorry for my late reply ... I'm still looking for this component.
It is indeed a diameter of 22awg. I'm not sure this is the "discrete wire IDC."
Can you help me with these additional photos please?

Thank you in advance!

heres a kit with two 10 wire connectors and pins.  you need a .156 molex crimper tool too

http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/76650-0099/WM8438-ND/2116002

What you are looking for are .156" molex KK connectors.

The female ICD connector from your first post.
http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/5792-10847-11

in your second set of images its the same thing just the 10 pin version (vs 11)
http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/5792-10817-10

as for the tool needed:
http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/77-IDC156
or
http://www.digikey.com/product-detail/en/360X30049X/626-1335-ND/1933544
note that if your careful you can push the wires down using a small screwdriver

if you go with the KK style that TopJimmy linked to you need something like this:
http://www.marcospecialties.com/pinball-parts/77-CTW
again with some patience you can do it with a samll pair of needle nose pliers, but the crimper is much easier in this case.

I would never recommend using an insulation displacement connector.  use the crimped pin connectors.  they are more reliable and more widely used these days.

  use the crimped pin connectors.
Do you mean KK connectors when you say "crimped pin connectors" or am I wrong?
