Octagonal Restrictor Plate on the u360

(1/1)

Woodshop Flunky:
I've picked up a u360 and was looking at the restrictor plates.  I'm not too excited about the 4x8 switchable, since I don't think I'll ever want to pop the CP off and break out the screwdriver between  games.

The round restrictor looks fine, but I know there won't be any "feel" for the positions.

Alright, so I'm down to the octagonal one.  Do any of you guys have experience with the octagonal restrictor?  What are the pros and cons?

Thanks

There's also a top changeable mounting setup that Andy just released.  I haven't seen any review yet, but looks promising.  They don't have octagonal though.

Woodshop Flunky:
I actually have the top mounted restrictor, but I don't think I'll be using it.  It's really nice, but I've noticed that the insert rides up just a hair when the stick is being pushed around.  It's very faint, but I can hear the plastic insert moving slightly.  That's really a nitpick since I probably wouldn't be able to hear it during play.

The bigger issue is that the restrictor sits proud of the CP.  A dust cover would look silly on that.  I could flush mount it, but then I'd need to have some way (a tool maybe) to pop the insert out.

I think a permenant solution is what I'm looking for.

8BitMonk:
I settled on the octagonal restrictors after testing the others. The 4/8 way (square) restrictor felt good in 4-way mode but when in 8-way it sucks not being able to feel the exact up, dn, left, right. The circular restrictor was just too...uhh round and gives no tactile feedback for the position you're in. I like having feedback so I can feel each position, especially for fighting games. I don't like the feel quite as much as a good true 8-way that clicks (like a mad catz fight stick for console) but it's worth it for the versatility of being able to switch the maps on the fly and the octagonal feels nearly as good.

ARTIFACT:
I just ordered some octagonal restrictors, after about 4 years of using no restrictor at all. It's been a great set of joysticks (U360) but I am looking forward to "feel" the directions while playing, especially for fighter games. I will also switch to hard springs and see how that feels. I had the soft ones on until now.

Thanks for the posts above as they were informative :)
