I dont know if youve ever tore apart a car door, but a modern car door window regulator would be perfect for this, providing that the track isnt curved too much.

Think boxy, like a Scion, and then take a trip to the junkyard.

after that all you would need to do is figure out a good mount for the regulator, and a track for the glass.

wire the motor up to the key switch and you are set. also you would want to have a two position key switch so you could simply turn the key one way to raise it and then switch polarity going to the motor to roll it down.

Hope this helps.

Ive never tore apart a scion, but you might get lucky. some window motors are three or more wires. three wire motors are great because the center pin is ground and then the two outer pins are up and down. if thats what a scion motor is, you dont have to worry about figuring how to switch the polarity.

any more than 4 wires is usually a computer controlled motor and is specific to that motor and i wouldnt recommend it unless you are able to locate a good pinout.

Hope this helps.

Investigate switches (Usually under nitrous switches) for cars.  There's a number of them out there similiar to what you're describing.  You'll have to do a little work to get it to interface with a PC,  if it's even possible,  they're usually toggle switches,  but it's worth looking into.  At the very least,  the housing may be what you want and you might be able to replace the switch itself with something more viable.

Good idea, however it would be huge in comparison to what at least I would think would be a good size for a switch box of this nature.

I think I will look into using a small gear motor from Solarbotics. I used one when I made my rotating monitor setup. I'll have to figure out where to get the 5v power from. I had a direct contact from a molex on my rotating monitor but I am wondering if i can draw it from a usb port.
