Hey Community,  Smiley

I would like to announce I am also offering my freelance art skills to the community.  I've been doing illustration and graphic design for about 8 years now and have been doing some arcade specific art for a few years.  The following are a few examples of my work:

This Galaga marquee is an example of how I can redo the original graphics of old and make them look amazing again with a few 3D tricks.

These are not all finished pieces but give you a quick idea of my style.
The pixelated look is a favorite of mine but I also like to "redo" the characters of old using the same colors and design layouts.  I can also create interface graphics, intro movies and sound effects to go with your theme. Here is an example of my own personal cab's interface:

So if you want your cab to look the best it can send me a message and we can work out the details for what you have in mind. I will give you a quote depending on the complexity of the piece. For some proof of my professionalism have a look at my personal portfolio at:

www.darkwoodstudios.com

and my cab's site:

www.trebeck.ca

Thanks all,
Ryan

* Update *

I am currently working on a set of pieces that I will be offering for prints on Deviant Art.  Might be something cool in there for your game room!  I'm going to complete 10 of them before I start selling but I will post what they are here.  Partly to keep ---my bottom--- moving on this project!

Sick cab! Love that intro, so simple but effective! The whole things looks sexy! What FE are you using, MA?

I agree - very nice work!

I'm also curious to know what FE you are using (it does look like MA) and if it is easy to set up with the intro movies and stuff.  The switch between games is almost instantaneous!

Yeah it is MA, read it on your website! Wink

Love the way you made the cab zoom in and then back out from emulator selection to game selection! How the hell did you do that!?

MA is such a quality FE, it is so easy to setup and more importantly to use! My friends always say it is self explanatory, you turn it on and you instantly know how to use it!

Thanks for the praise guys,

Yah I started with Mamewah, Mala, then went to Maximus Arcade and I've been very happy with it.  It doesn't have as many bells and whistles as Mala but for some reason Mala would crash on me 50% of the time.  Something to do with the marquee images being loaded.  I could never nail it down. MA is really slick though.

How hard was it to setup?

The one thing I like about mala is that it is so easy to setup as well as to create your own custom theme.

I tried Maximus, GameEx, Mala, Mamewah, & Hyperspin.  Of all of those, Maximus was by far the easiest setup.  If you thought Mala was easy, you'll be amazed at Maximus.  I ended up going with Hyperspin because I love the individualized themes for each game, but Maximus definitely had easier setup.

Here's another example of how you can modernize the classics.  One day I think I'm going to make either a DK or a Mario bros. cab and I think I'm going to do this technique.
The last thing I need is another cab Wink

I'd love to have something like that hanging on the wall, all 3D like that. Made of wood or acrylic.

Absolutely gorgeous. Incredible work.

Here's another on-the-side tribute of mine.
Loved the Legend of Zelda on the NES when I was a kid.  Totally blew me away and kept me from the arcades which was a hard thing to do.  Hope you like it!

Hey funny you should ask!
I just finished a project for a super nice guy (who needs to post some pictures of his cab!)
It was a fun one where I got to completely redo a bubble bobble cabinet's art.  Although I think it was actually a joust cab.  Anyway, here are the images for it including the side art, CP, marquee bezel, and kickplate.

Ditto, that needs to be on a cab! I can't stress enough how awesome that artwork is. We're not worthy!

That is the type of artwork that draws you to a cab. It is simple, colourful, but not overpowering. Seriously bud, you did a A+ job on that, if I was the owner I would be so pleased with that effort.
