Ridiculously amazingly ridiculous and awesome! That, sir, is possibly the coolest thing I've seen in a long, long time!

Love this cab Ond!  Cheers!

@Shortbus – I’m glad you’re following along and enjoying the build, as slow as it is, it is progressing.  Kind words and compliments always require thanks Shortbus, not just because it’s nice to get em, but because other peoples interest in my project helps keep me chugging along.  So thanks man for helping to keep me going.

@emphatic – cheers dude, a break, and a chance to mull over things always gives me new keenness!

@vebbomania – Thanks,  I’ll return to the speakers finishing touch chrome add-ons and custom grills towards the end of the build (which will give me a chance to figure out how the hell to make  those parts Grin ).

@Kman-Sweden – just my workbench in my garage Kman, for the longest time I didn’t even have that, it’s not as nice as say Franco’s workspace, but it is my little area to escape to, I spent a lot of the weekend at my bench, actually my workspace is a total friggin mess after this weekend’s efforts, but that always happens, I’m not one of these guys that ‘cleans as I go’ I’m a slob who drops the last tool he used and goes straight to the next thing.   Ehhh I’ll clean it all up soon  Grin.

@Pixelhugger – thanks man, hey you know what it just may be time for the return of Pixelhugger hmm?  I don’t mean that in a ‘on your case, get back to work’ sort of way I just mean It would be great to see anything from you, just some new  design ideas maybe.

@Epyx – Thanks,  everything on this crazy cab is round arrrrgggghh  Hissy fit! , ok I’m better now  LOL

@Ryglore – Thanks, they certainly are different eh?  If this cab was a more conventional design I would have finished long ago, in fact it’s nearly a year since my actual start date on this one.

I decided to tackle the Retro-Futuristic cab’s CP Mark II this weekend.  Firstly I made a new insert for my Turbo Twist 2 spinner from a Laminex  sample.  After roughly cutting out the shape using my Dremel I stuck it onto a tap valve, clamped it into my drill press and rounded it off with the Dremel as it spun in the press.

Then I set about cutting out the new CP plate.  It’s shorter than the original because it will hinge on the top of the CP rather than at the back so as to clear the hemisphere. In the CP Mark II renderings shown here again,

you can see the PVC inserts set into the CP under Joysticks etc.  These will be back lit either with LEDS or EL sheet.  I shaped these from thick PVC sheet once again on my drill press.  The blue material around the controls will be cut from gloss blue Laminex, which I’ve already bought.  It’s covered in a protective clear adhesive covering;  in the pic is a sample of the blue.   Once I’d routed out the holes and rebates for the controls, I test fitted everything to make sure all was ok, and to take some pics.

I’ve been a bit slack with progress on artwork for certain folks, but I haven’t forgotten,   I am still doing it  Wink .

Btw, Ond, as you have screw-in buttons, you should be able to use them to hold a mounting plate for the joysticks. A rectangular plate with button holes and screws attached that match the actual stick ones. This way you won't have to drill through that panel, and these plates can be removed very easily.

Thanks dude, I'm going to order me up some of that EL sheet, I've never played with it before but I have a feeling that stuff will make those disks glow just the right amount.

Great idea! and I totally did NOT think of that.  The CP plate will be covered by Laminex around the joysticks though so drilling it is not a problem, hmm I'll ponder it further.

Now that I look at my sketch I realize that you could probably even use your router and make a track in the wood that the mounting plate slides into instead of mounting a "lip" onto the panel. And I agree it's a great idea.  Wink
