Hello,

I am after a bit of advice ... I recently purchased an Arcade Cab that i am turning into a Mame Cab. I am making it as easy as possible .. Using X Arcade for the controls so everything is VIA USB.

The cab i purchased has a working Coin Mech and i was wondering if anyone knew how i could wire it up an use it.

I have read about a product called Mini IPAC. I dunno if this would work

Some pictures dunno if they will help or not.

Worse case is i just Splice the Power wires for the little 12v light and have that turned on.

I have mine wired up to my Ipac4, two wires from the coin mech. to the Ipac to use a key press.

How easy is that todo mate .. dose it come with instructions ? How do i tell what whire dose what .. i know the Orange and Black ones are Power / earth ... Also will the IPAC Mini do the same job ?

I read recently that a guy had his lights wired to a power supply and had the switches from his coin mechs tied into the credit button on his x-arcade without cutting and splicing wires...Supossely the wire connector wiring the switches for the buttons on the x-arcade are large enough to poke an extra wire to make contact . red on hot /blk on ground of your credit button. BAM! coin mech works...This is going to be the plan that i am going to do when I recieve my tankstick.

I was trying to find the weblink to that guy 's project...Wait a min...found it ( link below)....he somehow made a coin mech for his cab...but you will see the idea...hope this works..

The slots are pre labeled but you can use any.

One wire goes to coin labled on the Ipac and the other to the ground.

IPAC Mini should be all the same.

thanks for the advice guys .. i will look into poking the wire into the arcade button and see if that works .. if not i will IPAC it

It isn't quite as easy as folks have made out, but it is only slightly more complicated.

What you have is a coin acceptor, which isn't just mechanical device with a microswitch as is common here in North America. You'll need to provide power to the acceptor.

This thread will help as I believe the acceptor in question is the same (and, coincidentally, was started by Marky_1979):

Right so let me get this right

Wire up with IPAC
For the voltage use the Yellow 12v and the Black 0v from the PSU and plug them into the power cables of the coin Mech ?

Yes unless there is already a power module supplying power to the coin mech? Just a consideration if using the ipac im not sure if there will be a small voltage running through the unit from the wire from the coin mech?

This is Coin Mech end

SW1 - No Wire
SW2 - No Wire
0v - Black Wire .. This wire comes from the light bulb in the PCB board and back out again -- Wire this into the Earth of where the power is coming from.. i used the PSU
P2 - Yellow with Black Banding Coin 2 on IPAC
lamp - No Wire
12v - No Wire
MET - White wire with Red Banding -- Ignore this
12v - No Wire
P1 - Orange wire with Black Banding -- Wires to Coin 1 on IPAC
0v - Black -- This is the earth that needs to be wired into IPAC or what ever version you are using
Key - No Wire
12v - Orange Wire -- Wire this into where you want to take your power from .. i used the PSU 12V cable

Update ... I Fixed it i opened up notepad inseterted a coin and it came up 55555 .. i checked the coin buttons X Arcaded uses and its 3 and 4 .. a quick remap and all was sorted out.. thanks all for help

There is an important issue to be aware of here. A powered coin mech or credit board might send a 12 volt signal to the device its connected to. This will damage the I-PAC / X-Arcade etc. It might not cause imediate damage but may be a delayed issue.
So, its always worth checking with a multimeter that no voltage higher than 5 is present on the connection to the interface.
This issue is not relevant when using a simple switch-type coin mech.

Does it matter if I use the ground from this on only on the second ground imput on the ipac or will i have to split the ground so it goes into both groyund slots on the ipac? as i already have a ground wire in there for all the other controls. Also having issues with the wires on my coin door as when i use the player 1 coin and orange and black wire and what should be ground the ipac gets very hot very quickly so i unplug it as there is something very wrong, have i forgot to do something?

I have IPAC mini and it only has one ground cable.. i just pushed the coin grounds into the Grey wire of IPAC and all was fine.

Even plugging in ipac with no connections it heats up is this normal? or have i got a faulty unit/ doing something wrong i have a wire from my computer keyboard slot to the ipac. I have tried to use the winpac software to program it and it keeps timing out making me believe its not working the green light flashes on the unit for about 10 seconds then goes out. Help

Cloud be a faulty unit mate ... mine is working fine wired like i mentioned above.. I am using the USB lead tho not Keyboard.

1. Is your wired up like the pic attached?
2. Does anyone know which slot on the ipac do I plug the ps2 cable into:
1 says PC USB/KB
the other say KB PASS
