Sanyo 20EZ (or 14") "fold-over" cap... ?
« on: August 25, 2008, 07:17:32 pm »
I bet this has been discussed before here but what cap is the infamous "fold-over" cap on a 20-EZ (or better yet, on the Sanyo 14" as used in Atari's cabarets) ?

I will need to do a quick fix for now, no time for a complete cap-kit....

Thanks

most retrace caps will be rated 100uF @ 35v.

replace with same value as in set,  and  u can go higher in working voltage  ;)

I asked this same question not long ago.  Search my posts, Ken answered the question.

Mmm, the 14" PCB is a bit different from the EZ here.

I compared the schematics and I guess C406 is about the only (electrolytic) cap in the vertical circuit that could be causing the same effect.

I've got both my 20" "Radar Scope" Sanyo and 14" "Missile Command Cabaret" monitor next to each-other now and I can confirm that the chassis are essentially the same. Of course, the "Atari" has the inversion electronics on board where the "Radar Scope" doesn't (would be nice to copy it and make it switchable....)

Already found one different cap value though, so I will go through all of them to compare.

Anyone has a cap-kit list for the 14" Sanyo ? It's Zanen kit #303 but I can't find the values anywhere.

OK thanks to Elutz on the KLOV forum I got this cap-kit list for the Sanyo 14":

1uf50V C166/C207/C453/C455/C460
1uf160V C475/C610
4.7uf25V C162/C206/C408 (all three are bi-polar caps)
4.7uf160V C406
10uf16V C479
10uf160V C471
47uf16V C208
47uf160V C410
100uf16V C211
100uf25V C205/C457
100uf160V C462
220uf16V C161/C202
330uf25V C474
330uf25V C484 bi-polar cap
470uf10V C609
470uf160V C606 B+ filter cap

I have checked all value's and can confirm all of them to be the same on my "Missile Command" 14".

There are a couple of differences on the 20" however:

C484 - not installed !
C410 = 100uF - 160V
C211 - not installed !
C202 = 220 uF-25V
C205 = 220 uF-25V
C471 = 10 uF-250V

On the neckboard the 20" has:
C254,255 and 256 installed @ 47uF-25V.

So overall you can use a 14" cap-kit on the 20" but you will need the extra caps as mentioned in that second list.

Bit late, but this is just to confirm that C406 is the "fold-over" cap on the older Sanyo chassis.

It's C407 on the 20EZ.

and for the record , this uses a discreet output stage , rather than an ic driven vertical output .
 did not know that on my 1st response ... hadn't looked     :-[
