Verification email not being sent
« on: February 04, 2021, 11:07:51 am »
I assume this is something the admins know about but I could not receive the registration email to my Hotmail/Outlook email account.  I tried re-sending the verification email a couple of times and waited a day, checked all Spam folders etc, but I could only register using my Gmail email address in the end.

Thanks.

Similarly, I forgot my password a few months ago and I am registered with a Hotmail address.  Password reset emails do not seem to be getting to my Hotmail address.  And I can't change to a different email address without my password...

(I have cached credentials on one device, which is how I am able to write this as a logged in person.)

Cached where ? (ie. if using Firefox you can go to Tools - options - PRivacy and Security - Logins and Passwords - Saved Logins - Find this site ( forum.arcadecontrols.com ) in the list of sites - click on the eye symbol by password to show your password.

Multiple services, including Hotmail, flag activity from the arcadecontrols.com server as SPAM and deny it. I don't know how to resolve this, I have made efforts before with various services as per whatever instructions they give to get off their spam list, but since the server sends people notifications and other bits of automated email in fairly high volume, our server gets flagged as SPAM-sending, even though all the emails are legitimate and opt-in.

I don't have a way to fix this, though it's been some time since I looked.

Yeah I noticed it's a common problem with forums these days. Various ISPs and others decide to block, and there's nothing you can do about it.

Apart from begging the service, sometimes they need you to get better certificates and protocols, all of which is pain in the arse and costs money for no real return.

Update and clarification to Saint's post above:

1. So far, Saint still has not found an automatic way to fully fix this issue.   :(

2. He has found a workaround that allows him to manually activate accounts without users replying to the verification e-mail.
- This workaround doesn't allow users to get opt-in e-mails, but it does allow them to do everything else.   ;D
- The workaround also applies if you try to update the e-mail address on your account and no longer have access to your old e-mail address.

If you or a friend need this workaround, please e-mail saint@arcadecontrols.com and include the username and a profile link, if possible, ( i.e. Username "John Bennett" http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?action=profile;u=103777) so Saint is sure to get the right account in case there are several accounts with similar usernames like the situation here.

I think it's got to do with SPF, DMARC, DKIM and TLS settings. SPF has ~all, which basically means 'use any server you like', i.e. more or less useless DKIM and DMARC are absent. TLS uses 1.0 and 1.1, which are considered insecure by now. I guess that has at least to do with why MS blocks you. We regularly have to fix those things for customers. After things are setup more properly, you can use https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/supportrequestform/8ad563e3-288e-2a61-8122-3ba03d6b8d75 (need to login with an MS account though) to get you of the ban-list. Usually they respond within a day or two.
