Recommendations on Joystiqs/Buttons
« on: April 04, 2010, 01:47:26 pm »
I am curios what would be the best way to do this.

So far I am going to be running just a Pentium 4 or old dual core system.

Probably run MAME and whatever games work with it.

Using an old Time Pilot cab... what would be the best way to go about
my joystiqs/buttons. Should I buy premade Xarcade and go from there?
I want 2 joystiqs and probably 4-6 buttons each and a trackball.

I keep browsing for information on how to wire these joystiqs to the pc and
what I will need but have not found any solid info....

Heh, my best computer right now is an old dual core system laptop. Thanks for reminding me just how decrepit my set up is.

In any case, go look at Groovy Game Gear or Ultimarc In terms of service, they're both top rate in my book. Shipping varies because of their respective locations. There are others, but I've never dealt or interacted with them.

X-Arcade is OK I guess. It looks more at home in front of the TV and couch than on an arcade cab. The only real advantages I can see is it's premade and IIRC, they have adapters to work with most modern consoles. Not my cup of cheese really.

Probably run MAME and whatever games work with it.(most games will work, have a look into front ends too, I like Hyperspin and I've also used mamewah and mala in the past too, you will deffinitly need a dual core and 2gb minimum spec if using hyperspin)

I want 2 joystiqs and probably 4-6 buttons each and a trackball.Personally I would use an IPac from ultimarc if you are using standard joysticks and buttons, their U-Trak is a nice trackball too, check out their website for more options

The Ipac is extremely easy to wire, I'm sure its documented on Ultimarc's website
Also you didnt mention if your keeping the original monitor that's in your machine, highly recommend if all your using the cabinet for is mame
Ultimarcs ultrasticks(joysticks) are usb and are capable of using 8 buttons each stick(1coin button+1player button+8 play buttons) using this option you will not need an ipac

Ultimarcs website is here http://www.ultimarc.com/
