Coin Door installation

Ok, if I purchase a coin door off ebay (which looks like the best way to do it).. How simple is the hookup to my i-pac? I'm assuming happs is designed to be easy but the actual coin doors look like they have much more elaborate connections. What exactly does it take to attach it correctly to my ipac?

I have the Happs coin door.... (I bought it new.... its like $100 !!!... but looks VERY good...) - well... basically because I don't know how to make it look good and cover the hole without the coin door....
anyway.... that's not the point...

only the coin door lights needs power.... the ones I got from happs will take like 12V..... I'm currently feeding 9V to it and its fine....

the mircoswitch of the coin door does not need power... but beware... if you look closely, the microswitch for coin door is different than the microswitch you use in joysticks and buttons... and it turns out that the NO, and NC (normal open, normal close) leads are reversed... (at least for my Happs coin door....)
so, when you hook it up, make sure you don't hook up the wrong way....

the mechanical part of the coin door does NOT require power... (I'm talking about the usual quarter validator stuff... but NOT bill validator... that could be different....)

The thing to do with an arcade-veteran coin door is look for the switches that the quarters trip.  They're usually toward the bottom of each mechanism.

The two I've played with both had recognizable switches with poles to attach the wires from the IPAC to.  The switches were powered by the IPAC, same as any button switch.

In one case I wired each coin slot to a different "key" on the IPAC, so that coin slot 1 could be 1 coin-1 play, and coin slot 2 could be 1 coin-2 plays or whatever.  In the other case I connected both switches in parallel to "Coin 1", so I could reprogram the "Coin 2" keystroke for something else.

The coin slot lights can also be powered from the IPAC's +5V power for LEDs.  That is, if you can find bright enough LEDs to light the slots.  I went with +12V from the PC supply to power automotive turn signal lights.  Very bright indeed, and cheap too.

When you bought the coin door from Happs.. did it come with all the parts? (ie coin acceptor etc)

Basically, was it plug and play? hehehehehe

yes... I got the whole package from Happs... and its very much plug and play.... just like wiring 2 buttons and supply power to 2 bulbs....  very simple....

Just an FYI and I should probably put this in the buy/sell/trade section, but since someone brought up Happs coin doors.  I have a quantity of these doors that are new in the box.  I was planning on selling these along with a number of other parts when I get my website up and running, but I wanted to let anyone who might be going to Happs to get a coin door to consider these.  I'll sell it to you for half what Happs wants ($50 + shipping).  Just trying to save you guys some money (sorry hyiu I didn't say this sooner).  If your interested, email me or PM me.  Thanks.
