Title: What do you guys use to clean your wii games ( or any other disc based games)
Post by: rlemmon on January 29, 2010, 09:28:49 pm
Hi guys. I would like to know what you guys use t clean your wii games (or other cd/dvd games) In the past i have used 100% cotton cloths and Windex. I have noticed that this can leave very thin scratches though. Im not sure if this is do to the way the wii disc's are made or what.

I heard someone say that microfiber cloths for eye glasses work great.

Do you guys have any suggestions? Thanks.

My t-shirt, if its a heavily scratched disc then use furniture polish then rinse it off with water works a treat failing that toothpaste for real heavy duty scratches. Make sure you give it a good wash afterwards obviously.

I've always used a microfiber cloth.  Dunno if I'm supposed to though.

I haven't tried this on game discs but for DVD's I use a Mr.Clean Magic Eraser.  My kids Cinderella movie was so badly scratched it would even play, so I used the eraser on it and it actually played. It skipped in spots, but i was surprised it played with the amount of damage done to it.

I have a wii disk that has a deep scratch, more like a series of dots.  I think the wii did it.  But I have been trying to buff out the "scratch" with toothpaste and with some compound that came with an electric disk repairer and cleaner.  Nothing seems to work.  Maybe I'll try some buffing compound used on cars.

Years ago I bought a CD cleaning kit that contained a "cleaning solution".  I read the label on the bottle, and it turned out to be isopropyl alcohol.  So now I just use 91% rubbing alcohol to clean discs.

I too use rubbing alcohol.

one of the best things I have found to clean disk that do a great job without scratching are the DS screen cleaning cloth's.

I ordered like 10 package's from dealextreme for a buck or two shipped for each kit.

I was sitting there cleaning the ds screen and tried a disk that would not read I flipped it over and it had all kinds of crap on it so I put a drop of alcohol on the disk and used the same cloth I was using on the ds and tried it and to my supprise it worked really well.

now I keep a few box's of the cloth's around just to use for cleaning dirty disk lol.

To be honest, this is one of the bigger reasons I hacked my Wii - my son decided that a dime should go into the drive slot so when I went to load Zelda it caught the dime, and scratched the hell out of it when I tried to eject the disc. Thankfully, the lens wasn't damaged, and I've now moved the Wii to higher grounds. I'm using a backup of Zelda now (I've been so busy over the last year and a half I still haven't beaten it, but I intend to before the new one comes out), and it works like a charm. For general scuffs, if they're worth the repair (like my original copies of Lunar 1 & 2 for the Sega CD), I'll take them to a brick and mortar video store and have them buffed. It's like a dollar a disc, and I don't use them that often, so it's worth it.

when the ISOs on the hard drive get dirty I'll letcha know.  My nephews have their masters in fingerprint marks with a bachelors in surface scratching. I put my Wii games on the HD then put the games and cases in a safe place. Their new Wii games look worse then my 15 year old Saturn games that I bought used.
