Upon getting this monitor it was totally dead. I checked the fuse and it had blown. Replaced the fuse and fired it up. As soon as I fired it up there was a campfire right on top of the flyback which basically was toasting the power wires as they run adjacent to it. So I'm not sure if the flyback is toasting the wires or vice versa. Not sure where to go next with this. I'm thinking maybe the flyback is toast. Any suggestions?

if the arc is coming from the flyback itself then install a new flyback-quite a common problem with age

Likely to be the Fly. Anyways you can check and see what's toasted. You will see the burning on the Fly and probably a perforation. If not, look at the big polypropelene Capacitors near the Fly (looking like milk/chocolate candies) sometimes they create a little 4th of July also.

Thanks for the input guys. The caps around the fly appear to be ok. I guess I will order up a new fly from Bob and see if that takes care of the problem. I never installed a flyback. Are they hard to do? I've done a few cap kits in the past, but this will be my first attempt at flyback replacement. Any tips before I jump in?

discharge the crt, make sure you connect the screen and focus wires the correct way around on the neck card-make sure you get the correct flyback by using the number embossed on your flyback

The new flyback did the trick. After replacing the flyback I did a cap kit too. I adjusted the picture and got it reinstalled in my Capcom Bowling....The picture looks great. Thanks for the help guys. Now onto my next project...reviving a G07-CBO.
