Title: Custom shaped buttons
Post by: SavannahLion on January 23, 2010, 09:55:41 pm
Was there a project that employed some custom shaped buttons for the CP?

Nearly every CP I've ever seen uses the standard round buttons eg happs.

Atari restorations or wannabes use the volcanoes.

CrapMAME qualifiers use the squares.

Then there are a few oddball ones from the arcades eg Street Fighter and Pop 'n' Music.

But was there ever a cab project that used custom buttons? I recall someone posting about a round button that sported two halves, but the OP later realized it was a bit too large to fit in place of a standard arcade button.

not custom, but the game relief pitcher used a big round button divided into 3rds

Yeah, kind of. It's in the same vein of what I was hoping for, but that's produced by an OEM.

I was actually trying to see if anyone actually created custom shaped buttons for their CP. ie for their MAME setup.

I had to make Custom buttons for my scratch built Starwars Yoke.

Buttons made of wood are not that hard to make.   The problem
usually lies in how they are locked in place... as not everyone is
going to be able to make threads on a cylinder.   If its not that important,
you can build the button right into the actual CP itself.
