Title: USB Hub
Post by: markronz on January 17, 2010, 11:59:30 am
I am considering buying two UltraStik 360 joysticks.  I know that these joysticks hook up via USB cables.  My concern is that I might run out of USB ports.  My question is what happens if I get a USB hub to enable myself to plug in more USB devices into.  Does this affect the performance of the USB devices?  Like because the devices are running through a hub, does that delay any signals or any other performance effects I should be aware of?

I'd go for a USB-pci card instead. They are probably cheaper that a hub.
Good luck.

Your signal will have to go through additional switching in the hub before going to your PC, however that additional time will be much shorter than you can comprehend.  I wouldn't worry about.
Control inputs are very, very, very VERY low bandwidth so you wouldn't need to worry about overloading a single USB port with lots of connected devices on hubs so long as they wern't storage devices.

My U360s are on a powered hub and I've never had a single issue.

Just get a self-powered hub.
