Title: Aim Trak reloading
Post by: gman314 on January 16, 2010, 11:07:47 pm
How is reloading handled when using the Aim Trak?  Do you have to shoot off the screen or is it necessary to press a button?  Does it allow you to choose a preference between these two methods?
The reason I ask is because I am deciding on which lightgun to mod.  Other than the trigger, I would assume that it would be wise to have at least 2 additional buttons.  Would the Guncon 2 be a good choice?
By the way, will Aim Trak work with console emulators?  Will it work with Sega Model 2?  Thanks.

it connects to the bottom two pins that are just below the triggers pins.

depending on the gun case you choose you would need to shoot off screen if you only have a trigger but if the case has a button that could be used as a reload function if needed.

I just got two lethal enforcer 2 6 shooters and they only have a trigger and have to be shot off screen so I am going to add a reload button so I can shoot off screen or use the added reload button.

some game's like T2 you need that extra button not to reload but to use the rockets same goes for operation wolf you need a gernade button etc.

there is a tool/program you can download from ultimarc to make the button and trigger function as you please.

I asked what the gun of choice was also and it looks like the guncon2's are the one's of choice and sound easy to work with.

these lethal enforcer 2 guns I got where a hot pink so I had to sand them paint them plus bore out 2/3 of the inner barrel in order for it to fit where the guncons have plenty of room.

I mainly wanted the real arcade feel but have to do a bit of work to get them the way I want look's wise and the barrels I used a dremel but had to be carefull not to sand right through it or get it to hot and have it deform..

AimTrak will reload on off screen fire, or if you wanted to you could configure to a button. As far as additional buttons, there isn't much need going beyond the trigger and one extra button, unless you do as I did and use additional buttons for coin/start/exit/etc. I know that it works with the psxfin emu (make sure to set fullscreen to 640x480 or it will not work right). I did have it working in Sega Model 2 (some games require calibration in game to fire on target) but I haven't tried it out a whole lot. Mame and PC games is where I use it the most. You'll need the Troubleshooter for some PC games.

If I use the Guncon2, I think that I also will paint it (the bright orange is not going to work for me).  What is the best kind of paint to use?  Standard modeling paint?
Also how exactly do you wire buttons to the P1, P2, ...P5 on the gun sensor PCB?  Do you have to solder the wires on to it?  The included wiring harness seems like it connects just to the trigger and aux pins.

Yes, you need to solder leads onto the PCB and connect those to your extra buttons.

Also, is it possible to mount to LED sensor in the "horizontal" position, but upside down?  The LEDs, of course, would be angled towards the PCB camera.  I was thinking of mounting it ouside my plexi and bezel, and attaching it to the underside of the marquee area.

Also, northerngames, what kind of paint did you use?  I rather have a black realistic looking gun than a bright orange one.

Check this post out on the HyperSpin forums (http://www.hyperspin-fe.com/forum/showpost.php?p=52905&postcount=93) that I did.  I used a Guncon 2 and wired all the buttons up except for the 2 start/select buttons on the gun.  Pardon he paint as this was just a test gun.  My 2 newer guns look much better painted.  I used Krylon for the on in this pic and it seems to scratch and come off fairly easy.  On my 2 new guns I used Vinyl spray dye that I someone here in the other thread recommended.  Looks much better, but the trigger still doesn't paint well. :(
