Title: JPac with IPac?
Post by: helpmebuild on January 16, 2010, 05:35:52 pm
So I have a Jpac which I am planning on using as the cab is JAMMA right now, but currently have a 2 player control panel that uses 7 buttons per player plus a player start, and coin button each....making it a total of 9 buttons per player on the cab total. As I understand Jpac doesn't support this many buttons per player, I was under the impression I could combine the Jpac with an Ipac to get the required number of buttons per player that I need.

Are there any tricks to this, or things I should know, in terms of how to connect these? Do the extra buttons going to the Ipac need to be daisy chained for example? Or can I just connect the Japc to the Ipac via PS/2 and connect the extra buttons I need straight to the Ipac and set it up that way?

Anyone who has their cab set-up like this, could you be so kind as to help me out?

The JPac will do 8 buttons per player PLUS the coin-ups and the start buttons.

So, no worries.

Hmmmmm so maybe a more defined answer is in order.......I am installing 32 buttons on a 2 player mame cp with a spinner, a trackball, 2-360 joys and 2 wico ball joys to compliment the 360's for smash tv.

Did I leave out that I have a rotary joystick that I wanted to install but I think my board is slight crowded now.....

So.....beyond the escape of running a couple of these on usb's.......when I connect my Ipac to my Jpac.....is there going to be an issue with joining the two? is there any trick to running these 2 together?

Is this for the same setup as the OP ?

EDIT: I don't think that it is, but the whole "maybe a more defined answer is in order" (pretense much?) phrasing implies that it is related ... if it isn't, let's split off into a new thread and keep things clean.

32 buttons?  You think your board is crowded?  I'd love to see a sketch up.

If you wanted more inputs than what the JPac provides, you could always add the button harnesses to the U360s for additional buttons.  It would probably be a lot cheaper and a harness takes up less space than another ipac.

Everything aside though.  I still would like to know if it is even possible to connect both.  My thought is that you could but you would have to re-program the ipac to use different keys.  Otherwise it would be redundant and would serve no purpose.  (ie.  CTRL would be the default for both devices so even if you connect buttons to each one, when you press them, they would both be mapped to CTRL - kind of like hooking up 2 USB keyboards to the computer).
