Hey all!
Well, it feels somewhat strange. I've been making a game over some
time, and now it's time for it to go live :o You can download it here:
http://www.1080p.dk/hollowpoint.html (http://www.1080p.dk/hollowpoint.html)
On this and other sites I've seen many threads about PC games suitable
for cabinets, but I always thought it was a little silly, since they weren't
seamless.
So, I made this small simple game(which was difficult enough) with
the intent of running it on a windows-based cabinet with a
horizontal monitor. Controls are MAME standard buttons/keys,
using 8-way joystick and two buttons.
It's 'optimized' for 320x240 and 640x480
It's only two-player...no AI. Playing this on a keyboard will be
impossible, unless you're a very special person:)
It works great on a cabinet or IPAC(or the like)
based joystick for the PC(I built an IPAC and controls into an
old winebox for this project:)
So, I hope someone will try it. It's not meant as a shameless plug,
but someone might get some laughs out of it.
Be nice :)
Thanks,
Nicholas

Not too bad at all!
I just tried it out. ( Only briefly though)
My only complaint is its Not friendly with My Controller. :(
I Have A HotRod SE and Player 1 uses:
the Num pad keys 8,2,4,6.
But hey its Free and a Good Contribution.
Keep up the Good Work!
Thanks!

.... just when i thought i'd put the finishing touches on the software side of my cab tonight.. as if :)
great stuff, man. though i think you're going to find that many people re-configure MAME's controls to different buttons, so redefining the keys ought to be an option (through a different .exe, or just editing an .ini... to keep it seamless).
you're quite right about the lists of "compatible" PC games around here.. a lot of the games recommended are a big stretch. some indie developers, though, take great care to make their games as accessible as possible. for what it's worth, the only couple i've yet found to be both worthwhile and seamless are Squid Harder and Super Mario War.
North vs South rules! i gotta try this with some friends soon

Really? I'm sorry to hear that...I would think all used the same :(

Remember, a picture of the game running and/or being played would make
my day.
As I say in the read-me and on the site, me and my friends played Hat Trick on the
cabinet while drinking and having a party, and the cabinet MOVED through the
room from pulling and pushing while playing. ;D

Wow that is cool!
:applaud:
There is another game that is great playing on an arcade cabinet:

nice! thanks for posting that.
good that controls are configurable.. [edit] pretty quirky with that, but i got them configured fine. but there doesn't seem to be any way to run this fullscreen.
i was thinking we should start a "Real" list of games suited to a cab.. the "Official" one is not cutting it. but how picky would we have to be? if it looks and sounds "arcade style" yet you have to run an Autohotkey script or something to customize the controls, is it too much trouble?

You can run it in fullscreen mode if you install the game insteaf of downloading the exe file. There will be a menu where you can choose between normal mode and full mode. It works great on my laptop. I couldn't run it on my cab. I don't know why but I'll figure this out when I have time to inverstigate.

tested this game.
I have some thing I like to see:
- possible to reconfig keys (even editing a config file is fine (as some wrote, some controllers does not use mame defaults). I did that in my two games, Seesaw Cirucs and Cave Heroes (dont comment them here, do that in the other thread, I dont want to hijack this thread)...
- Option, so you can play best out of 3 or 5, instead straight directly back to the menu.
- The screen selection cursor should been somewhere faster.
- When the cannon moved out when it running out of ammo, it shold autoselect your soldier ny autopress the select button.
These are just small things and simple things you can improvement your game.
PS. Which language did you use?

Hej Space Fractal!
It's great with your points, but that game is final and done. No updates. It wasn't meant
to be a perfect game or anything, just a game for some fast laughs with beers.
Besides, you DO comment on your own games, by saying that you DON'T do it:)
Hav en god dag.

ah well! for what it's worth, i already got it working perfectly with my cab with a very simple Autohotkey script
z::Ctrl
return
x:Alt
return
etc...
looking forward to trying it out with some friends this weekend

Really?
Thanks!! If possible, I would love some pictures

I didn't have anyone to play against,
however I played it anyway.
The characters move and react well.
The targeting distance for the different
soldiers and vehicles is cool.
Seems like it would be pretty fun
in the battle against a friend style
you designed it for.
Well done.
Man, I wish I could make a video game.

I do like your nice game and you should been proud I did not found any errors elsewise :D. The game does have some few flaws (as I wrote about previous), but I do gonna think it still 100% playable and really cool idea.
The most annoyring flaw I did see is missing remap, which cause I need to create my own little wrapper for this game, so I can use it on my own cab, which don't use mame defaults. The reason is ALT which cause some problems in some emulators. Depite that issue, great playable 2 player game.
PS. I have edited this post and I gonna admin to report #13->#16 (done, but one missing) to admin. This post was edited, so nothing is lost after these deletion of nonesense posts.
Hope that OK and I'm Sorry anyway, this is the last edit!!

You can!!! You just have devote ALL your free time ;D
....and at night it'll be the last thing you think of, and at morning it'll be the first!
Really, it expands in your mind. And you can spend SO much time with tweaking and
altering etc.
I only got this game finished now because I just had an extra week off. Even the simplest game
can take 100's of hours!!
