Don't!  It's a dedicated R-Type!

Not really a fan of R-Type. I can't find much out about this cab.

I'd straight up trade for a Dedicated DK of the same quality......

Does anyone know what the board and all of that is worth?

Now I am planning on converting this over to a Donkey Kong machine via Mame. Got the new Marquee coming from emdkay. Got the plexi cut at lowes.

Don't do it, please. First of all you are destroying a very nice dedicated R-Type cab. That's a real shame. And destroying the side art is an act of crime!  :o With a bit of TLC this coud be a very nice cab (it's already in pretty good condition), and whatever is wrong technically can be repaired. R-Type is one of the best SHMUP's ever, and it is a true classic.

Secondly, wahtever you do with the cab to turn it into Donkey Kong, it will be rediculous because it is no Nintendo DK cab. The shape isn't good, the color is wrong (or are you going to paint it? Not that it matters because it still will be rediculous) and there will be Mame in it (I'm sure that at a certain point you will have all kind of games running in it which makes it .... well, an ordinary Mame cab).

Please reconsider this, it's not too late. You can buy a generic cab for verry little and turn it into a 'Donkey Kong Mame cab'.

If I would live in the US I would buy the cab without thinking from you, even for double the amount.

I almost feel bad covering this side art up, it's in fantastic shape. Gonna be sad when I peel it off......

:o I'd cut off my right arm with a spoon for one of these babies! LOL, somebody needs to give this guy an empty nintendo cab and save this beauty.

Yikes. Guess I won't post about this project anymore here.....

Sorry guys, but I bought the cab with the intention of making it into a donkey kong cabinet. It just so happened I found a cheap nintendo cab locally. Again, If someone can find me an empty DK cab or similar Nintendo cab, I will straight up trade. I don't mean any disrespect by doing this, I jut really want a DK cab.

This should be removed from the Restoration section NOW.

No matter what, putting an LCD inside a classic cab is WRONG.

Ugh, translation of this guy's posts: "Im too lazy to find another cab"

R-Type is RARE! DKs are everywhere. Trade the R Type. Sell it. ... :hissy:

Now the dude wussed out but still seems to be hell bent on destroying this classic... at least have the balls to stand your ground...regardless.

I echo what others here are saying.  DO NOT DO IT... DK's are a dime a dozen... R-Types are pretty rare (I've only ever seen 2 in my LIFE).

lol I didn't wuss out. I'd just rather not upset anyone else. I have literally been looking for a DK Cab for over a year. I decided to find a cheap cab locally, and this is what I found. Theres no being lazy about it. I set out to find a cheap cab to mod, and I did.

Why would I leave something up that is obviously upsetting people, thats just silly.

Again, if someone knows of a Nintendo cab and want's to trade, i'm ALL for it. I never set out to do this to upset anyone, I just want a DK cab. Nothing more.

..... I have literally been looking for a DK Cab for over a year.

Please state your location, how much miles you are willing to travel for a (project) DK cab and your budget. Because we really want to help you find one, we are a coomunity who want to help out other people. Just don't cripple R-Type. We will be on the lookout for you, won't we guys. For instance, what about Craigs'list, I always see more than plenty nintendo DK cabs (or DK jr).

No worries.

I am in Clearwater FL, it's about 30 minutes outside of Tampa.

I don't own a Pick up truck so picking up a cab is an issue for me.

Craigslist is where I found this cab, never seen a true DK or similar Nintendo cab on there.

Don't let all the "purists" freak you out pal. I will admit that wasn't a good choice in ideas and maybe next time you can ask about a cab before you make a statement like that. But really, these forums have been steadily going down hill the last couple years imo. SOME of these guys really get their panties all in a bunch and over-react. Don't let them put a bad taste in your mouth for a pretty cool hobby.  ;)

Hey IG-88, maybe you need to double-check what forum sub-section this is.

I hear ya Ray. Just seeing alot of negative crap on here that you used to never see is all. Hate to see someone give up because of that.

It is his cab and he has every right to do what he wants with it. I don't judge what other people decide to do and no hard feelings intended. R-type is just kind of my holy grail LOL so my first reaction is to  at the thought of her getting parted out on ebay or something. With this one being in such good shape though he should be able to find someone on here to do at least an even trade for a DK.

My advice is to ask around here on the forums first before making any changes. There's a lot of good honest people here.

IG-88...  nobody here would have complained if he had taken some generic cab and MAME'd it.  However, that R-Type is pretty rare and in great condition.  It would be a great shame to do anything to that game, other than restore it.

Thats what I have decided to do. I honestly had no idea this cab was rare and didn't want to upset people by mame'ing it. Everyone keeps saying I should have found a cheap cabinet to mame....well thats what I did. I went on craigslist, and found this for cheap. I have decided to not change anything on this so if someone DOES find me a comparable Donkey Kong machine, we can trade.

No worries guys, I won't mess with this one.

That's very good news.    I hope that you soon find another cab. But as you are not that much out of pocket until now, why don't you restore R-Type ánd have another cab for Mame? You will experience a lot of help from us with your R-Type restoration project. And I assure you that you will get very fond of the game.

Anyway, glad to hear that you will respect the classic R-Type  :applaud:

And now we sure can use a good laugh to celebrate the happy ending: http://www.wickedretarded.com/~crapmame/ (http://www.wickedretarded.com/~crapmame/)

I am very glad you have decided to not Mame this.  I'll also be happy to help you find something locally.  Between here, KLOV, and RGVAC I'm sure there's something.  FL is practically an arcade Mecca, aside from New England.

Shame you're not in NE, I can think of several Nintendo cabs available for peanuts here right now.

As bad as it sounds, I'm not interested in r-Type at all. I have never been a fan of that series. I wish that there were several if any DK Machines here in FL. I saw a pristine DK 3 cab on craigslist ONCE, and by the time I called, it was already gone.....

If you guys can, please keep an eye out for me. I want one that is at least in the same condition as my R-Type is.

Thanks again

That's fair; I'm not a fan either, but I am a fan of arcade preservation.
