Title: Need help finding a particular coin door....
Post by: garnerb350 on January 08, 2010, 11:42:39 am
Guys, I need some help...I dont have any photos of this cab to help...but here is my problem...
I've got a Space Invaders 2 cocktail ( one that has the metal legs & rollers). Its missing the coin door. The previous owner had it fixed to be free play by removing the door and covering the hole with a brown plexi sheet and a rinki-dink pushbutton. I want to find a replacement coin door and have it back to orginal specs. Back in June, I went to an auction and I looked at the cocktails that were simular. They had the single coin mechs/door that remind me of the way the Donkey Kong cabs were... (big silver coin return button, silver "U" bolt looking coin catcher at the bottom) Ive been looking for any sites that could possibly sell that small single coin door. The cab is in great shape...just need to polish the metal legs (little rust) fix a loose pushbutton, replace the locks and find a replacement coin door.

I found a pic off the net that can help identify what I am describing...I just cant find the *&^% thing....

What kinda response were you expecting ?

I know where one is right now ....... it's on my SI cabinet ... and I plan on leaving it there.

You're kinda sol until you happen to come across someone parting out a cabinet.
There's not an aftermarket version that I'm aware of.

Hi,

The coin doors on these Table Tops were usually made by Coin Controls.
I do have some of these but they are old Uk coinage.

Is there a certain name that these coin doors are called? "roll-down" coin mechs? Need something to use when doing searches that all...

Are you missing the whole door/coin mech frame or just the coin mech itself ?

If it JUST the coin mech then it will be much easier to find a suitable replacement.

Hey, are you looking to get an authentic replacement?  I'm not sure exactly what you need if that's the case.

If not, I bet you could get this to fit:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ELECTRONIC-COIN-SELECTOR-FOR-8-LINER-CHERRY-MASTER_W0QQitemZ120363094699QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c063312ab (http://cgi.ebay.com/ELECTRONIC-COIN-SELECTOR-FOR-8-LINER-CHERRY-MASTER_W0QQitemZ120363094699QQcmdZViewItemQQptZLH_DefaultDomain_0?hash=item1c063312ab)

It looks the real deal, and I believe that's the type that stores a coin inside, and when one is inserted, it scans it and compares to the master.  Pretty cheap, too.  Don't know about quality.

I think "coin selector" is specific to these electronic ones, but you could try that and see what you come up with.  The electronic ones are all that come up on eBay.

Kev, it everything...frame and all...

Saurian, thanks, I'll check the link when i get home...(work pc wont let me go to ebay)

Yeah i need one so that i can finish off the restore. Whoever was the first owner, I guess they removed it in order to make it free play...and the cover they have on it , is REALLY ugly. IF i cant replace it, I guess I will just replace the switch with a pushbutton...better than nothing...Thanks for the help guys...

I think "coin selector" is specific to these electronic ones, but you could try that and see what you come up with.

Those electronic ones are also referred to as "coin comparitors".
You actually stick a coin in the side that you want the unit to "compare" to.

His should be of the roll down variety.

What he needs would be closer to something like-
http://www.arcadeshop.com/pics/nintendo-replacement-mech-stainless.jpg (http://www.arcadeshop.com/pics/nintendo-replacement-mech-stainless.jpg)
or
http://www.arcadeshop.com/pics/nintendo-replacement-mech-textured.jpg (http://www.arcadeshop.com/pics/nintendo-replacement-mech-textured.jpg)
or
http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=COINMECHN (http://www.mikesarcade.com/cgi-bin/store.pl?sku=COINMECHN)
or
http://api.ning.com/files/bZ (http://api.ning.com/files/bZ)*K7rIvOKGPGha2PaLqhEJ9JNadRgwviv0M2pbvcWvAygcSyLVgOD7L5BfQ4XGwsvDinPSJBuaiEDrLS0ZdT1AHdI1NUONT/CoinMechFinished.jpg

I'm not sure of all the mounting dimensions of the ones I pointed to, just some examples for now. Obviously some have a different texture and style from the original ones that should be in that Taito cabinet.

And that's if all he needs is the mech, if the little black housing is missing then he'll need that first of course. Just saw your new post... sucks that they removed the surrounding housing too, really wasn't a need for that.  :P

Yes, thanks...most of the eBay listings call them "selectors," and I couldn't think of the word "comparitor."  Also, that's what I was trying to describe; thanks for clearing it up.

I did realize that if he wants something close to the original mech, he'd want the type that you linked to.  I just thought the other ones would look and fit the same, so they'd be an acceptable replacement.  Although, that one at Mike's Arcade is about the same price, so if authenticity is a factor, that might be the one to go with.  Assuming it fits, of course.
