Title: Good media center software/frontend?
Post by: Moose13 on January 05, 2010, 03:00:46 pm
I have an old XP machine that I have connected to my livingroom LCD to watch movies/videos.

What's a good media center software/frontend (besides XP media center), with a nice graphical gui that can display box art, pictures, etc?

Have you searched around on the forums here? There's several threads about just this topic.

I know a lot of people recommend Freebox for jukebox software. Personally, I like JRiver media center, it's really good for media organization/tagging etc, and it does have a very nice interface for home theater uses, but it costs a little money.

Then there's something called Media Monkey that looks pretty dang good for a free app, but I've never installed it.

But there's a lot more options floating around too

I think I found it through the threads. XBMC looks fantastic. I'm going to thry that one first.

Thanks

Media portal looks pretty good, but I didn't see any mention of actual library maint functions (like tagging etc). Maybe it's intended to be the HTPC piece and you manage your files with something else?
