Title: upgrading a processor

Hi,

Here is one for all the computer people here. I have a hp vectra vei8 pIII 450 mhz processor, what i want to know is if and how high can i upgrade the speed. I have no idea how to find this out, so i know that the smart people here will help, thanks in advance.

You need to read your MB manual for that. Unless someone here has the same exact one and have upgraded before. Try HP they should really know.

usually the HP computers can only be upgraded by 200 - 300Mhz above stock

depends on how many multipliers are above the current one your using (jumpers) ... and how well the heat sink dissipates the additional heat.

in your case ... a cheap XP1700+ (1.47GHz), Epox 8RDA, and Corsair Twin-X PC3200 would do nicely ... super cheap too (easily overclocks to 2.0Ghz and higher on air cooling)

If it is 100FSB like my 500 then 850 is the max most likely.  Consult the manual.
