Mame will  be different then nebula.  On my machine, Nebula runs about 50% better then mame.  metal slugs run at full speed in nebula on my machine and mame doesn't.  I have a PIII 500.

I've been using a PII-350 as a devs machineand Neo-Geo stuff in Mame runs acceptably with the FASTVID program in use.

You might want to look into the newest all in one boards with cpu, memory, graphics, sound etc included. Heres one example....

It depends really on the bits you have already and your budget. What have you got so far and whats the most you want to spend??

My Cocktail cab has a 667Mhz Celeron and the Neo Geo games work great.

Im just thinking ahead for a 2nd project Dexter. See the "Interesting idea my buddy had" thread for my take on it. It's funny I have a long way to go on my first cab but I can't help thinking of future projects!

The ultimate neogeo to enchmark, Neo Super Dodgeball attract screen.  If you can run that at full speed you can run any neogeo game at full speed.
