I'm almost finished with my cocktail-mame and I need a vertical front end that doesn't need too much cpu power and is easy to setup. I downloaded cocktail fe and I just can't seem to get it running right. I downloaded Arcademenu 2.5 but I can't seem to get this installed. I think Mala and Mamwah are command line only. If someone here has cocktail fe running properly, could you show me how to install it?
Is it possible to have one front end look at 3 different versions of mame and be able to select games from the different versions of mame running?
I have misfitmame to play PONG. I have mameui.135 to play 2 player Tempest on the cocktail and I have mame32 to run everything else.
I really need a link to a youtube front end installation "for morons" video to watch, I'm just helpless when it comes to front ends...

AtomicFe can do that.

i have a tutorial but it does not explain the specifities about coktail mode and how to setup mame.

But i'm suprised you did'nt managed to do what you want with Mala. Mala is very good at Coktail support and very well documented.

My own MultiFE should do that and can auto rotate when first pushed on that joysick or button on that side. Howver the FE might not rotate correctly on a game quit, but would do that when you push the joystick anyway, so no big issue.
Yes Mala should also have really good rotation support, you might have been limited by the Theme choice so you could not do a rotate.

Mala has worked out well. I can control the game list with with either a spinner or joystick, very nice. One thing though, I use Misfitmame to play Pong only and even though I created a dummy "roms" folder, mala won't launch Pong. I don't know where the file that plays "pong" is. Can anyone help?

I use a FE called "Game Launcher" on a Pentium II running Windows 3.1 and DOS MAME. It's really simple and easy to set up. See screenshot below. But I'm not sure if it's cocktail friendly or not. I have it running on my Vertical cabinet. (It can also run on a Horizontal setup of course.)
You can grab it here: Game Launcher Website (http://www.dribin.org/dave/game_launcher/)
