Title: Getting a wii, game choices ?
Post by: rlemmon on December 24, 2009, 02:12:24 pm
Hi guys. I'm finally getting a current gaming system.  I have stayed away from  console gaming for a good 3 years. I have been content with playing the hell out of my genesis, snes and mame systems. That all changed when i saw a video on you tube of new super mario brothers for wii. I new i had to have it as soon as I saw all that cool retro mario goodness !

I am going to pick one up in two weeks or so and other than mario I need to figure out a few good games to grab.

So far I'm thinking about these :

House of the Dead: Overkill

Rayman Raving Rabbids

Dead Space: Extraction

They all look fun but what games would you guys recommend?

Your choices are excellent, by the way, as I understand it for starters....I've played Rayman; my wife loves it (it's weird enough to be right up her alley)...the other two I've only heard about so far, but they receive excellent reviews. My suggestions:

Wii Sports Resort (just because you'll want to expand your options once you see Wii Sports)

Tiger Woods Golf 2010 (in spite of recent issues, the game still rocks)

Resident Evil 4 (the one designed for the Wii)

The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Metroid Prime 3: Corruption

Super Mario Galaxy, if you like platformers

Super Smash Bros. Brawl

Mario Kart Wii

NHL 2K10 - if you're a hockey nut; the  game has a high learning curve IMO.

Hasbro's Family Game Nights (probably the first over the second)

WiiWare Games you'll want to try out, once the internet is connected:

TV Show King 2

Lost Winds and Lost Winds: Winter of the Melodias

Pokemon Rumble

Rubik's Rush

World of Goo

That ought to keep you busy for a while.......... :D

By the way, I took over editing the Wii friend list from somunney some time ago, so if you'll send me your Wii Friend code, I'll add it to the list.

External HDD
SD Card

:D

I mostly agree with RTSDaddy2 list although you should also add these to it:
No More Heroes
Super Paper Mario
and instead of Metroid Prime 3, get Metroid Prime Trilogy.  It's Metroid Prime 1, 2, and 3 in one package and all changed to use the Wii's controls.

House of the dead overkill is heaps of fun, especially if you can get a hold of the hand cannons (http://nintendo.joystiq.com/2009/01/16/official-house-of-the-dead-hand-cannon-shoot-like-g-does/). The game is not really accurate unfortunately, but i suggest working at it in single player until you have the automatic shotgun, and then it'll be more fun with two players (",)

My big buys for next year when they are released will be Tatsunoko vs Capcom and Red Steel 2. Red Steel 2 will use the motion plus and looks to me like it will be THE swordfighting game to have on the Wii.

Excite Truck
Williams Pinball Hall of Fame
Game Party (cheap but the Darts is a lot of fun)

+1 on Wii Resort.

:duckhunt . Well, it was one of the first 3rd party games for the Wii so you gotta cut em some slack. Initial reviews say forget what you know about the original. This is nothing like it. Not sure why they are using the same name, maybe they want to get a 'final fantasy' thing going...

Another WiiWare title you might want to check out if you're an old school gamer is Mega Man 9. It's made in the same style as the NES games, so it should be a natural pick-it-up-and-play deal for you. That, and it's only 10.00 for the game, and maybe another 10.00 for all the downloadable content.
