My son wanted a nerf gun for Christmas, and so I get to looking around on the net and find this page.

So of course I had to order the parts and make one. I've got it almost done, it's not a lot of hours to build, maybe 10. It's been a fun little diversion.
Just wondering if anyone else here has made one?

Haven't built one but that's an interesting project!

Nope, but it looks like fun. I will have to look into that a bit more. Just what i need....another project :banghead: :dizzy: :laugh2:

Ya i was impressed with how easy it's coming together. Should have it finished tonight. The spring in it is really hard to compress, supposed to have a 25 lb pull, which to me seems like alot for a nerf gun? Im wondering what the range of this sucker is going to be. I brought in the partially finished model for some show and tell today in the office and got alot of positive feedback about the feel, and trigger mechanism. Fun little project, I'm always fascinated by the DIY crowd in any area, so I had to give it a go.
I can't believe I never thought of using label paper to print designs on to cut from lexan before... seems so simple but very effective. I had to do very little sanding after cutting the parts out to get them to fit.

That's pretty cool. If you wanted, before assembly, you could use that same adhesive label method and a little sand to engrave some pretty cool patterns on it. Do I see the next version with some sandblasted patterns and LEDs? ;D

That would be awesome to play with the cats... my one cat likes to fetch.
-
Might be a little hard hitting for the cats. It is a good idea for a cat toy though. Just a lower tension spring. I guess I will have to move this up on the list.

I wasn't gonna hit the cat, lol, I said my cat likes to fetch things.

I caught that, we have cats too. Ours have a knack for getting in the way of objects thrown for their amusement.

Ballzooka.
That is all.

Heh. Someone bought my kids some Nerf guns this year. After a couple hours of shoot, chase the darts, reload, search for the darts, lose the darts, try to play with 1 remaining dart between the two guns, accidentally whack each other with the gun, crap the spring holder broke now we have one gun, you left the remaining gun out in the rain... both kids came to the conclusion that it's a lot simpler and more fun to just whip nerf footballs at each other.
In middle school my best friend lived on the edge of the Parker Bros factory parking lot. They used to keep a LOT of defective stuff in their dumpsters and as a result we had a neverending supply of misshapen Nerf balls and Monopoly pieces. ;D

Just a quick follow up. I did finish this and OMG it's a little too powerful, but it's fun to play with. I was crushing an empty water bottle from 40ft away with a standard nerf dart! lol. My 7 yr old cant even cock it. I tried adding the extra pipe to relocate the barrel and it's pretty sweet. Made it shorter and easier to site down it now. Fun project and I totally recommend if you want to burn a few hours over the holidays.
