Title: Weird Mame 2P phenomina - Insight Needed
Post by: rezero on December 03, 2009, 09:59:19 pm
I am running Mamegui (mame32), and using a keyboard mapper, all of my controls are showing working correctly.  When I play games in mame, the player 2 joystick does not function (the player 2 button work fine).  When I went back to the mapper, al of the proper buttons lite up when I moved the player 2 joysirck (q,f,....).  This tells me that the joystick is working fine and sending the correct signals to the PC.  Any thoughts why it does not work when running mame.

I am using a keyboard hack.  But as I stated I am using the normal keys for the player 2 joystick (f,q,r...).  In addition, when I go into MSWord or something and move the joystick, the letter come up just as prescribed.  This tels me the joystick and controller is sending the right signals to the computer.

Within Mame and in a game, hit TAB and scroll to the option for all games, and see if P2 joystick movements are programmed within Mame itself.  With what you are doing within Word, you see that it should work.  That means something within Mame itself isn't matching what you have.

Did you change the default configs at all or anything?

What do you mean by "using a keyboard mapper"? Are you using software to convert the joystick signal into a keyboard signal? If so new versions of MAME uses Raw Input to read the keyboard so you cannot use software such as XPAdder with MAME unless you compile a version that forces it to use DirectInput. Why not just use the joystick directly in MAME without mapping it to a keyboard?

USB Keyboard.  The mapping program is just a typing tutorial that shows the keys that you hit when they are struck.  It is not part of mame but I used it when I was instaling al of my wiring to ensure everything was correct.  When running mame it is not used.  All key are programed in mame for the specifric game I am using.
