i tried the cabeMame version but It had some wierd effects that I didnt like. Some of the sound was a little odd. I think I like the Mame Plus version with the video enhancements a little better.

Yeah I've never really been happy with the screen tear fix...always seem to either have sound glitches or the screen tears anyway.  The main reason I like it is for the 256 line vertical games like Frogger/Galaxian that MAME now displays with 768 lines.  Cabmame brings them back down to 256 for arcade monitor goodness.  Do you know if Mame Plus has that workaround?

I dont know about the work around. I use quickres to set res at 356x256 <----- as far as I remember and it seems to work with most games. Sometimes the top of the screen is missing like 1 or 2 lines but not a big deal. I have thought about trying avres to set each game to its optimum.
