I'm looking for a 20-22" piano hinge to attach my control panel to the cab. I only find 10" and 30" hinges at Lowes and HomeDepot. Can I cut a 30" hinge? Or will the inner axis fall off? These only come in brass, AFAIK... can I spray paint without chipping or sticking?
Anyhow, if you know of a good source forvariety of piano hinges, please let me know.

I cut it with my jigsaw and a metal-cutting blade. I'm sure it can be done wit a hacksaw, too. My recommendation for keeping it straight while cutting would be to screw it down to a piece of wood either flat or along an edge and just saw the whole thing. That's what I did and it worked great.

Have you thought about using 2 10" ones? That seems like the easiest solution, the lowes in nebraska has silver ones.

I also have the original control panel's hinge (centipede, heavy duty, black).
The hinge is glued to the panel... does anyone have any idea how t remove this thing from the panel? (FYI, the panel itself is a total loss).

I cut the piano honge that I used on my CP with snips (I have a strong grip) no problem... give the cut end a but of a sand though... really sharp edge.

Can anyone think of a way to detach the original hingre from the metal control panel? it is stuck with glue. A very strong bond. Maybe some solvent? I just want to make sure I don't end up removing paint from the black hinge -- it is in perfect condition.

Are you sure it is glued? Most are spot welded to metal control panels.

I used two shorter hinges (2x12 I think) and it came out great.

Sure LOOKS like glue to me. I even pried one end off (about 1/2 inch to verify. I don't want to continue separating it that way, because it bends the hinge...
