What the french toast????
Let me re-phrase the question....Is there any way for a complete technical git like myself to be able to keep high scores in MAME?
That was alot to take in for sure. I don't even wanna attempt to read, write, or read and write anything. I don't know JACK about the ins and outs of this fun stuff, however if the only way to do it is to write a bunch of commands, then i'm screwed!!!

Okay, short-word version. :)
Basically, this used to work in MAME for everyone. But a while ago they took it out. So there's there ways to work around it:
1) Use an older version of mame. The newest version that supported hi score without any fuss was .107. Then you just need the high score .dat file ( http://highscore.mameworld.info (http://highscore.mameworld.info) ) and you're good to go. Bad news is that you can't use it with any game emulated after .107.
2) Do it the way MAME suggests:
One alternative to saving high scores is to make use of MAME's "autosave" functionality. If you run MAME with the -autosave parameter, then when you exit the game, MAME will save the state of the emulation, and will attempt to restore that state the next time you start up MAME. To the game, it's as if you never pulled the power cord. At this time, however, only a subset of MAME's games fully support save states, so this approach is not a perfect solution.
This will work for most games, but last time I checked, Galaga (for example) really flipped out if you used the autosave feature this way.
3) That link above is for compiling the newest versions of MAME with the hiscore support that was taken out earlier. It's probably the best option, but also the most technical.

It's really not that bad just follow the link:
For help compiling MAME, please see Mr. Do's excellent page. He's made it so simple, there's no excuse not to compile your own!

If I can do it I'm sure you can to:)

I got mine from http://www.mameworld.info/highscore/ (http://www.mameworld.info/highscore/) and it supports Mame v0.133

No, he's just saying it was last updated to support mame version .133. That's the file you need after you compile mame yourself. By itself, it does nothing.

Well I got my Mame from this site when it was version .131 and it was pre-compiled, and from what I can see the files there are still pre-compiled. From memory I just downloaded the first three files on the download page and unpacked them into the same directory, and also followed the instructions at the bottom of the screen and it just worked. Just give it a try!

Oh, yeah, I didn't see they had a compiled version of MAME on there. Ignore me.
