I just upgraded my MAME files to .135. The only problem is that Asteroids won't save high scores... All of the rest of my games work and have the old high scores intact. Is this a bug, or is there something I can do to fix? Thanks in advance! Dean

Obvious question: You are using a version of mame that still contains support for hiscore, right? If all the other games you checked are more modern, that might explain it.

Yes, I am using the latest version of MAME .0135 compiled with update u1 and the hi_score.diff file. All of the other games seem to be working, but Asteroids gets erased every time. I lost a great score the other day and I am not sure if it would have been my best!

Did it save hi scores before the upgrade? I know there are certain games that do not save hi scores.

Asteroids does not save scores on power down.

Yeh thats right asteroids doesnt save hi scores when turning off.DAMM Does anyone know if any version of MAME keeps the score from turning over after 99,999 I hate to work so hard and see 00 again :banghead: I luv this game but...

Just double-checked: I'm running .135 (not u1) with the hiscore diff and it's saving my Asteroid hi scores.
Maybe try downgrading and seeing if that fixes it?

i Downloaded the latest hiscore.dat and installed it to the mame directory of version .133 but it didnt work for asteroids. As per the directions from recommened hiscore.dat site it says to delete the latest nvram file that mame makes for each game but asteroids doesnt make one. Only asteroids deluxe works. Any suggestions

I was running .128 and asteroids was saving my high scores. The problem was that the rocket sound in asteroids didn't sound right. So I upgraded and now it sounds right, but the high scores don't save... I guess I'll try downgrading - or maybe upgrading now that us is out...

Yep .128 has sounds quirks i was running that version also let me know if you find a better version that does it all. Also one that keeps the game from turning over after 99,999 back to 0 awful
