I was emailing opt2not10 on his cocktail cabinet he is building to see what he used for lights behind the white control panel plexi, and he told me he hadn't gotten anything yet. Since I was only needing to light up the plexi behind the control panels, he recommended that I might try a 10 LED USB Portable Soft Lamp Light for a notebook computer. Looks like it could be a feasible solution.
My question is, has anyone used these for this? If so, are they bright enough, to light up the control panel on a cocktail cabinet, and did you just use one bar of 10 lights behind the plexi, or two? How long is the part of the bar with the led lights in it?
I'm converting an old Galaxian cocktail cabinet, and there weren't any light sockets attached to the cabinet behind the plexi. Trying to see what some of my options are.

Hey ratabase1, I ended up purchasing a 12v LED strip today (mostly used for car installations -- says the guy who sold it to me).

This is how it looks, i toned down the exposure so you can see it in this photo, but in RL it's a lot brighter.
I connected it to my PC's power supply using the standard molex harddrive power connection. Easy-peasy. I referred to this guide (http://www.blakesmame.com/power.htm)on how to set it up that way.
I'm going to splice them up and wired them about my cabinet. I've been told that the general rule is to keep LEDs in groups of three, not singling them off.
These cost me $15 CAD, at a local electronics shop.

Used one of these for a marquee, very bright, only cost £2ish - see my Dig Dug Bartop - link in sig.

I bought two red LED rope lights from a Hong Kong Co. for real cheap on ebay because they had blink and flash control. I put one coiled behind the marquee and one under the red translucent buttons. They look great under low light conditions but are hard to see with the lights on where I put the cab. :P
