And what other robot to get than the best....
-
Since nobody asked:
McDonald's had a run of Star Wars toys with their happy meals overhere and we noticed this nice R2D2 display (there were flyers in the center vents part). So we asked what would happen to it after the end of the action weeks, and they sad it would be thrown away, so we asked if we could have it. Manager was nice enough to write down our number and she called yesterday that we could come and pick it up.
It looks very nice and it will be a good addition to the decoration of the "SW corner" in the gameroom !
Best thing is that it doesn't have any McDonald's references printed on it :)
-
Wow. This is something great to add to any gameroom.
-
Nice score! I've tried asking a number of times over the years with very minimal luck--- and never with Star Wars.
Doesn't 2010 mean it is time for a live dolphin in the house? ;D
-
I was actually pretty amazed myself. Thought there might be some rule that they weren't allowed to give them away or something like that. I also was a bit amazed no-one else apparently had asked before me.
I would also have expected it to have some McD's logo's on there. Anyway, my son's friends were all jealous :D
-
There usually are rules that say you have to put it into the dumpster. When I was at Subway we did a big Happy Gilmore promotion and people were asking for the display materials. Of course, most of the people would be sleazy or annoying about asking so I'd tell them no. One regular customer asked nicely and said he could swing by the day I had to take it all down so I gave him the whole batch of stuff. Sometimes it just comes down to asking like a regular person with manners instead of the usual "yo man check it out I wan dat artoo hook it up if you know what's good for ya".
-
I'd have pressed the silent alarm button if someone did that in my store. Usually that brought a flashing cruiser by within about 2 minutes.
-
You can walk out the door but I'll choose asking any day. It wouldn't have been having to deal with the cops but having to deal with my parents after the cops.
-
My strategy: Send the wife :D (Actually she suggested to ask it since my son and I were talking about how cool it would be in the gameroom).
Women get things like this done easier than men. It's stupid, it's wrong, but it's true. Indeed she simply asked nicely.
When we went to pick it up there were some people in the restaurant looking at us like we had stolen it though !

Boobs open doors that a smile will not.

Especially doors with minimum wage teenage boys on the other side.

Well in this case the manager was a woman too, but that still is the best way to do it :D Maybe even more so.

Na, it's more than that. Humans, especially in western culture, are still imbued with the stereotype that females are gracious and pleasant, etc. But if your bearing and address are correct, a (non-gay) male can get a lot of the same things done, socially.
I wouldn'tve been jealous at any age, but especially not even when it came out. Just after Star Wars came out, but I think before we had seen it, I got a Star Wars guy. A STAR WARS GUY, HEY, WOW....IT'S NOT THE ONE I WANTED, BUT I GOT A STAR WARS GUY! That's exactly what I said at my birthday.
I got a sand people dude. I of course wanted a storm trooper. Not Luke Skywalker, cos he was just a boy. Not Obi Wan, cos he was an old dude. Not Solo because he didn't look as cool as a storm trooper. Not Darth Vader, because he had a cape, and his helmet wasn't as cool as a storm trooper's.
The droids, while they were cool in their own way, were not that cool of 'machines'. They were kinda clunky. But so was most of the Star Wars world at that time.

If you compare a movie like The Last Starfighter, Star Wars was a lot more believable IMHO.

Might seem so at first/to the uninitiated, and certainly the latter was of greater quality, but they're both sci-fi (fantasy-in-space). But I'm not sure why you brought that up.

If you break the world record on Galaxian, you get a visit from an alien recruiter
-
The game was not Galaxian it was called "The Last Starfighter". Atari actually came close to making the game with working prototypes known to exist at one time.

dUH !
I'm not planning of breaking it. I just hope the new record will be set on my machine :)
