Saw a lot of the Mt. Dews but couldn't find the Pepsi.  Hopefully better luck finding it this time.

What, exactly, constitutes unnatural sugar?

High fructose corn syrup.

The Dew was kind of nasty. The Pepsi was pretty good...for pepsi.

HFCS is pretty damn bad for you in the quantities people get it anymore. It's in pretty much everything. Do your kids drink juice? Even the alleged 100% kind? Read the ingredients list if you haven't already. In many cases you might as well be giving them pop to drink - it would be better for them.

The Dew was kind of nasty.

I have to agree with shardian on this.  Tried some a few months ago and wished that I had only bought a 20oz rather than a 12 pack.  I just did the same thing with Brisk's new sweet tea.  I usually get 4 or 5 Arizona sweet teas a week and I like regular Brisk so I thought I'd try it and now I'm not sure I can even finish the other 11!

It's a bit depressing that we've now reached the point where "natural sugar" (i.e. sucrose) is regarded as the healthy option.

I agree.  I'm a big Dew fan and was disappointed.   The Pepsi was okay but not as good as Mexican Coca Cola.

real sugar cane Dr Pepper beats em all hands down  :)

Unfortunately, you can pretty much only get it in Dublin, tx  :(

Every time I see any of that stuff, I have to pick up a case. Otherwise, I've sworn off all soft drinks.

I picked up a SodaClub a while back, and some carbonated water with a slice of lime or lemon works just fine for me. Plus you can mod the sodaclub to use a welder's 20 or 50lb CO2 tank, and one of those will last you for years.

Amen to that.

I used to drive down to Dublin and pick it up. Kinda felt like I was bootlegging Dr.Peper across county lines. Now I just have it shipped to me, although
it is $43.00 shipped for 2 cases. Worth every penny.

Central Market will have it sometimes.

About time. My usual supplier was only able to get one case of the 20oz bottles. Couldn't get any from anywhere else. I had to resort to going to the 7/11's around town to buy them up.

I don't know what's up with the morons around my town. A lot of them cite themselves has "healthy" people, going to the gym three times a week, walking/jogging a mile once a day, yet they eat those dried fruit and granola bars (HFC), drink lots of Gatorade (HFC) and buy cheap wheat bread (HFC). They still wonder why they're all fat and slobby.  :laugh2:

Yet when something comes around with anything remotely resembling sugar (other than HFC) they run in the opposite direction screaming like a bunch of girls. People are even terrified of inverted sugar, but stuff their faces full of HFC every day.  :soapbox:

If you guys still traded with Cuba you wouldn't be in this HFABC whatever pickle  ;D

Cuba is only part of the equation. Sugar prices in the U.S. is artificially inflated (subsidized I guess?) and imported sugar is restricted (not just from Cuba, Canada manufacturers sugar as well). Growing cane sugar is only possible in a tiny area of the U.S. so most of our granulated sugar would come from Beets. People get weird about beet sugar.

Corn based products receive fat government subsidies and there is a better funded Corn Lobbyist in D.C. ensuring the corn industry keeps receiving their money while ensuring the sugar industry continues to be hurt from artificially inflated prices.

Ah... now I get it, didnt realize you guys in the US had corn syrup coke.  Whenever I used to travel to the US for work and had a coke it never tasted right, but I didnt really think too much about it.  Makes sense now.

I honestly can't imagine any of our processed foods tasting right to anyone outside of the country. The U.S. food industry puts all sorts of weird ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- in all sorts of weird places.

Mexican coca cola tastes even sweeter to me.

It's just whatever you're used to.

It's the aftertaste. HFC soda has a distinct aftertaste, almost acidic. Whereas non-HFC lacks this aftertaste. I don't believe HFC is a direct cause of the aftertaste though. Most likely it's a necessary ingredient added to HFC sodas.

Sugar soda is distinctly smoother, slightly sweeter and definitely lacks the strange aftertaste.

No, it's actually kinda amusing. Baby steps, you know.

Yeah. NOW. But in the 50's they were you're fifth biggest trading partner, and you were their biggest. Sure, they make a fine cigar, but that's not what kept their economy going  ;)

I very rarely drink soda.  But, on the occasion that I do drink a soda, I prefer the ones made with sugar over HFCS.  It's a taste thing for me.

That's true, however, I doubt the scenario would be any different now if Cuba was never embargoed. Sugar prices would still be higher than they should and Corn would still be considered the joke end-all cure-all for our problems.

I can dig that. I don't recall even in the early 80s there being sugar on the labels of cans.

There is a conspiracy theory that the whole reason why New Coke was made was to allow coca-cola to reintroduce their old cola back with HFCS. Before new coke, it was sugar, when they re-introduced it (after the failure of new coke) it had HFCS instead.

HM. I didn't drink soda in cans enough to keep that much notice. Not that I was drinking soda all the time in high school, anyways. Mostly at lunch at the pizza joint or whatever.

(Later on, I hardly ever drank soda, although when I was in the Corps, there was this Del Taco outside the back gate, and sometimes I'd stop there and get a macho combo burrito combo - and instead of a jumbo soda, I'd ask if they could substitute a mondo chocolate shake! For a while, they were actually filling the soda cup with shake, and charging me no more!!! HAHN.)

I'm excited and horribly addicted to MTN Dew. I expect the carbs will eventually kill me.

Traveling almost anywhere outside the US I've noticed its all real sugar....and 90% of the time its Coca Cola...China why don't you have my
MTN Dew? Europe? Mexico? I think while I was in London this year I found Pepsi...but I've yet to run into MTN Dew outside
North America. Maybe I'm not looking hard enough.

Anyway I'll be glad to try it..but as people have already said it might be let down being different than I'm used to.

That's a complex question, my dear.

Well, even more simplified: Why would ANYONE want to be a proctologist (other than the pay). Outside of that, if you WERE a proctologist, then I think we all know the answer.

It's complex because if people were healthier, there wouldn't likely be much need for various areas of standard medicine, that one included.

I'm sitting here with a bottle of throwback Mt Dew.  It tastes a little different.  It is close enough that I cannot be sure the difference isn't just because of the label.   :dunno

I am not a regular soda drinker; however, the whole Throwback concept was enough for me to give both the Pepsi and Mountain Dew a try when they first came out last summer.  I enjoyed both and have been looking forward to Throwback: Round 2.  This time, both taste more like their regular styles to be terribly exciting.  I know that the Mountain Dew includes orange juice this time, bringing it closer to the current formula than the first Throwback.  I am unsure if there is anything actually different with the new Pepsi.  I hope there is, because it tastes much different to me than the first Throwback.

While I like the packaging on both new Throwbacks better than the first round, the actual contents are mostly a disappointment.  I was fortunate enough to find a couple of cases of last summer's Pepsi Throwback recently, so I've got those tucked away, but I think the Mountain Dew Throwback from last summer is long gone.

I've cut back on soda due to health reasons since the last round of Throwback so I'm not as excited this time.   :badmood:

The ones I saw seemed to have a more noticeable label.   I was thinking that the original Throwback labels looked a little too much like the regular labels.
