I know this is an old post but maybe someone will find this if they have this question. ATI x300, despite all the post to the contrary, will put out component video out the 7 pin din with the breakout cable that has red, blue and green. It is a little tricky to get it working. Here is the trick. You have to have your TV set on component video and the TV has to be on the proper video output in order for catalyst to detect that you have an HDTV. If you just plug it in and boot up, the default will be s-video and it looks really strange coming through the component input on your TV. The next step is to go on display manager and in my case I see 2 televisions listed for the tv. One is for HDTV and one is for SD. Choose the HDTV symbol and drag it into the second window on catalyst and either extend desktop or clone. I would suggest choosing clone. At first you may not get any video because your desktop is probably at a relatively high resolution that the TV is incapable of displaying. Be careful some TV's I read could be damaged from unsupported resolutions. To be safe it would be helpful to choose 640x480 before cloning the desktop onto the TV. If you want to only use the TV in the future it must be set as the primary display and then you can boot up to the TV. Anyway Im using 640x432 whuch catalyst must have detected but it was not in the resolution at first but it has no overscan and all mame works without any size issues and on my Panasonic flat screen even though I do not have scanlines for authenticity everything looks absolutely amazing.
