Title: GGG Trackball Cable for TurboTwist2 Interface: How to hook up??
Post by: Gamester on November 17, 2009, 01:45:37 pm
I sent a message to Randy, but sometimes it take him a while to answer, so I thought I'd put it out here too...

I have a question about the Trackball Cable for TurboTwist2 Interface (used with standard trackballs with molex type connector... e.g. Happ).  I can't find documentation anywhere, and I'm trying to figure out which of the 3 jumper wires does what.  One of them seems to have a red mark on the wire, but the other two don't seem to have any distinguishing markings to tell them apart.

I know at least two of the wires should be for axis, but not sure where the third should be connected to the TT2 spinner interface (if at all)?  Should it be connected to the 5v jumper?  Do I have to use trial and error to figure out which wire corresponds to each axis, or am I missing something?   :dunno

Got a surprisingly quick response from Randy this time.

Here's what he said, for anyone that's interested:

"The red marked wire goes to the 5v connection.

The other two are marked X and Y, if you look carefully. You might have
to look across the light to see it. You'll probably need to move your
TT2 to the Z axis, which will require an earlier version of MAME, or one
which is patched to reduce the Z sensitivity."

Hrmmm...  I'll have to look into the Z sensitivity issue.  I've already compiled MAME 134.  Sounds like it's not going to work for me unless there's a patch for it somewhere that addresses this issue...

EDIT: I found the thread for the Z axis patch/diff file here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=75693.msg800467#msg800467 (http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=75693.msg800467#msg800467)
